Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh: In Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister is like the top leader of the state government. Even though the Governor is technically the head of the state, the Chief Minister is the one who really runs things day-to-day. After elections, the Governor usually asks the party or group with the most seats in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly to form the government. Then, the Governor picks the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister and their team of ministers work together and answer to the assembly. As long as they have the assembly's support, the Chief Minister can stay in power for five years with no limit on re-elections.

Since 1950, Uttar Pradesh has had many Chief Ministers. The current one is Yogi Adityanath from the Bharatiya Janata Party, who has been in office since March 19, 2017. Uttar Pradesh has had some notable Chief Ministers from various political parties, including two women, Sucheta Kripalani and Mayawati. Akhilesh Yadav from the Samajwadi Party was the youngest Chief Minister, taking office at 38 years old. Only three Chief Ministers have served a full five-year term: Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav, and Yogi Adityanath.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath, born Ajay Singh Bisht on June 5, 1972, is the current Chief Minister (CM) of Uttar Pradesh. He is a Hindu monk and a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Yogi Adityanath became the CM in March 2017 and is known for being the first Uttar Pradesh CM to complete a full 5-year term and then get re-elected for a second term. Besides politics, he is also the head priest (Mahant) of Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur. His leadership is marked by strong policies and a focus on law and order, social welfare, and development in the state.

Current Chief Minister Of Uttar Pradesh

Yogi Adityanath, originally named Ajay Mohan Singh Bisht, is a Hindu monk and a key member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a major political party in India. Since March 19, 2017, he has been serving as the 21st Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, making him the longest-serving Chief Minister in the state's history, surpassing Sampurnanand.
Adityanath represents the Gorakhpur Urban Assembly constituency in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly since 2022 and previously served in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 2017 to 2022. Before becoming Chief Minister, he was a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha for the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency from 1998 to 2017.
He stepped down from this position to take up the role of Chief Minister and later resigned from the legislative council after winning a seat in the legislative assembly. Adityanath is also the mahant (Head Priest) of the Gorakhnath Math, a prominent Hindu monastery in Gorakhpur, which he assumed in September 2014 after the passing of Mahant Avaidyanath, his spiritual mentor. He is also known for establishing the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a Hindu nationalist organization. Adityanath is often associated with Hindutva nationalism and social conservatism in the public eye.

Govind Ballabh Pant, born on September 10, 1887, in Almora, Uttarakhand, was the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, serving from January 26, 1950, to December 27, 1954. A prominent figure in Indian politics, he played a vital role in the country's independence movement and held various positions within the Indian National Congress. As Chief Minister, Pant focused on social welfare, education, and economic development, laying the groundwork for Uttar Pradesh's growth. He continued to serve in the Indian government after his tenure and passed away on March 7, 1961, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and service.
