India Post GDS 2026 3rd Merit List Delay Explained: Candidates who have filled out the India Post GDS Application Form 2026. They are waiting for the official release of the India Post GDS 2026 3rd Merit List. This list was expected to arrive by the end of April or the very beginning of May. However, there has been a slight delay.

Candidates can expect the 3rd merit list to be officially released within 10 to 12 days on the official website. India Post GDS Recruitment does not involve any written exam. Candidates are selected based on merit and marks scored in the 10th class examination. 

Why is the India Post GDS 2026 3rd Merit List Delayed?

The biggest reason for the delay is the Document Verification (DV) process for the second merit list. The second list was released on April 11, 2026. Shortlisted candidates were given until April 27, 2026, to visit their assigned postal offices and show their original certificates.  During this time, officials check:

• Original Class 10 marksheets.

•   Identity proofs like Aadhaar or PAN cards.

•   Community or caste certificates.  

• Disability certificates if applicable.

  The 3rd Merit List cannot be made until the department knows exactly how many people from the 2nd list actually joined. If a person does not show up for verification or their documents are found to be wrong, that seat becomes "vacant" again. 

Why Vacancy Recalculation Takes Time?

Once the verification period ends, every postal circle across India must send a report to the main office. They count how many seats are still empty. This is called Vacancy Recalculation.

1. Unfilled Seats: Some candidates choose not to join because the location is too far.

2. Rejections: Many candidates are rejected because their marks do not match their certificates.

3. Resignations: In some cases, candidates from the first list might leave the job shortly after joining.

All these empty spots are collected and categorised by state, division, and caste (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS). The system then runs again to find the next best candidates for these specific spots.

Technical and System Updates

The India Post GDS portal handles a massive amount of data. When a new merit list is prepared, the backend system must be updated to ensure there are no errors. Officials review the lists to make sure the cut-off marks are accurate. Even a small computer error could lead to the wrong person getting a job offer. Therefore, the department takes a few extra days to test the list before making the PDF files public on the official website.

What Candidates Should Do Now?

Candidates who can expect their names in the third merit list. Then, they should keep their documents ready for verification. India Post gives a limited time to candidates completing the document verification process.
