SSC GD Vacancy 2026

Checking the SSC GD Vacancy is one of the first things aspirants do once the notification is out, since the total seat count gives a fair idea of how competitive the recruitment cycle will be. Here, the given details cover the total SSC GD Vacancy 2026, the force-wise and category-wise split, the state-wise vacancy pattern, previous year vacancy trends, and how vacancy numbers usually affect cut-offs.

Candidates should note that SSC generally revises the initial SSC GD vacancy figure during the recruitment cycle, so the final number of SSC GD vacancies 2026 may differ from the tentative figure released with the notification.

SSC GD State Wise Vacancy — How It Works

Unlike some SSC exams, SSC GD vacancy is not just released force-wise and category-wise — it is also broken down state/UT-wise, since each CAPF recruits candidates against their state or Union Territory of domicile. Within every state, the SSC GD state wise vacancy is further split into three area types:

  • General District (G) Area – the standard quota open to candidates from regular districts of a state, forming the largest share of vacancies.

  • Border Guarding District (B) Area – reserved for candidates domiciled in notified border districts, mainly relevant for BSF, ITBP and Assam Rifles postings.

  • Naxal/Militancy-Affected District (N) Area – reserved for candidates from districts officially notified as Naxal or militancy-affected, applicable largely to CRPF, BSF and CISF vacancies.

Selection against SSC GD state wise vacancy requires candidates to submit a valid domicile/PRC certificate at the Document Verification stage; SC/ST/OBC candidates who have migrated between states can choose whether to claim reservation from their state of origin or apply as UR from their state of domicile.

SSF and NCB recruitment, on the other hand, is done on an All-India basis rather than state-wise. The complete state/UT-wise and area-wise SSC GD vacancy PDF is published separately by SSC alongside the main notification.

Looking at past SSC GD vacancies helps candidates gauge how sharply the numbers can swing from one cycle to the next.

As the table shows, SSC GD vacancies have fluctuated widely, with 2020 among the highest cycles and 2026 among the lower ones so far — a trend candidates should factor into their preparation strategy rather than assuming a fixed pattern year on year.

SSC GD Vacancy PDF

SSC releases a detailed SSC GD vacancy PDF listing the force-wise, state-wise and category-wise number of seats (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM), along with a separate area-wise breakup for General, Border Guarding and Naxal/Militancy-affected districts. This is usually published on the official website along with, or shortly after, the notification.

How SSC GD Vacancy Numbers Affect Recruitment

Understanding the link between SSC GD vacancies and other stages of the exam helps candidates set realistic expectations.

  • Cut-Off Marks: A higher number of vacancies generally leads to a relatively lower cut-off, while a lower vacancy count, like in 2026, can push cut-offs higher.

  • Competition Level: More vacancies usually mean comparatively less competition per seat, while fewer SSC GD vacancies increase competition, especially in high-demand states.

  • Force & Post Allocation: Since CISF and CRPF typically carry the bulk of SSC GD vacancies, candidates ranked higher in merit generally get a better shot at their preferred force.

  • State-Wise Impact: Because vacancies are also distributed state-wise and area-wise (General/Border/Naxal-affected), the effective competition and cut-off can vary significantly from one state to another for the same force.
