The authority has faced the issue of vacant posts in the recruitment process. It happened due to the failure of the candidates appearing for the document verification round. Many candidates target high-salaried and position jobs.

SSC Sliding Mechanism for 2026 aims to maximise vacancy fulfilment within each examination cycle and provide merit-based opportunities. It is designed to minimise unfilled positions caused by candidates who opt not to join after selection. The core of this mechanism involves a single reallocation process for newly vacant positions.
Identity Verification (IV) Process
Under the new mechanism, an initial First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA) will be conducted based on candidate preferences, following established practices. Candidates must visit their respective Regional Director (RD) Office for the SSC confirmation and tentative verification. They will complete Identity Verification (IV) through Aadhar authentication.
Candidate Options: FIX or FLOAT
During the Identity Verification stage, candidates must select one of two options: 'FIX' or 'FLOAT'.
FIX Option: Choosing 'FIX' signifies a candidate's acceptance of their initially allotted post as final.
FLOAT Option: Opting for 'FLOAT' indicates a candidate's desire to be considered for an upgradation to a higher-preference post if vacancies become available. If upgraded, these candidates are obligated to join the newly allotted post. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of both the previously and newly allocated posts.
Reallocation and Final Outcome
SSC will identify vacancies arising from candidates who were absent during the Identity Verification process. A single sliding round of allocation will be conducted for 'FLOAT' candidates. It will be based on merit and their expressed preferences. E-dossiers will be forwarded to the User Departments for document verification and appointment procedures.
Key Timelines for Verification
Candidates shortlisted in the First Round of Tentative Allocation. They will get 10 days to appear for theIdentity Verification. It includes Aadhar authentication and the submission of their FIX or FLOAT option. Failure to attend the IV within this specified period. It will result in the candidate being marked 'Absent' from further processing. No appeals will be entertained.
