RBSE Class 9th English Syllabus Section-wise 

The RBSE Class 9th English Syllabus 2026-27 is divided into four major sections: Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Textbook. Each section has a specific marks weightage and covers different skills, including comprehension, writing abilities, grammar concepts, and literature-based questions from the prescribed books Beehive and Moments.

  1. Reading Section 

The Reading section includes two unseen passages for comprehension, together totalling about 400 words.

  • Passage 1 (around 200 words): Objective-type questions, including vocabulary questions that test knowledge of similar words and opposite words.

  • Passage 2 (around 200 words): Very short answer and short answer type questions, including questions on lexical items.

Along with comprehension, lexical items are also tested in both passages.

  1. Writing Section 

The Writing section is divided into three parts:

Letter Writing

  • Informal: Personal letters, such as to family and friends.

  • Formal: Letters to the editor or to the Principal of a school.

  • Email: Formal emails to the Principal of a school or to the editor of a newspaper or magazine.

Short Paragraph (Limit: 100 to 120 words) Based on a speech, debate, or real-life experiences following a given outline.

Short Writing Task (Limit: 100 to 120 words) In the form of a dialogue or story, based on social events such as festivals or celebrations, using given hints.

 

  1. Grammar Section 

The Grammar section is tested through multiple-choice questions, fill in the blanks, very short answer, and short answer type questions involving the use of particular structures within a content. The prescribed grammar topics are:

  • Tenses

  • Relative Pronouns

  • Determiners

  • Prepositions

4. Textbook and Supplementary Reader 

This is the highest-weightage area, combining the main textbook and the supplementary reader.

Prose – Beehive 

  • One passage from the textbook for comprehension (limit: 200 words), which also tests lexical items.

  • Short answer and long answer type questions to check reading and comprehension skills.

  • Questions on the drama text to check local and global comprehension.

Poetry – Beehive 

  • One extract based on poetry from the text to test comprehension and appreciation.

  • Short answer and long answer type questions on the interpretation of themes and ideas of the prescribed poems.

Supplementary Reader – Moments 

  • Short and long answer type questions regarding character, plot, or situations occurring in the lessons.

  • Multiple-choice questions testing factual aspects of the lesson.
