To get rid of any fluctuations in the difficulty level of several sessions, it's crucial to employ a normalization technique.

The normalization procedure gives a comparative ranking to each candidate across all sessions. Depending on the average performance in each session, the marks from the easier session may be somewhat decreased and the marks from the harder paper may be slightly raised during any normalization procedure.

The normalized marks will also not change much if there is not a significant variation in the averages between the two sessions. The candidates would be justified while their real performance was protected by normalization marks.
