
WBCS Notification 2025: The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) has released the official notification for the West Bengal Civil Service Examination-2025 inviting online applications for Group A, B, C and D posts. The notification went live on 14 November 2025 and the online application window opens today, 18 November 2025, continuing until 9 December 2025(up to 3:00 PM). Following the application closing, an edit-window will be available between 12 and 18 December 2025. The preliminary exam is tentatively scheduled for March 2026, with the main exam and personality test dates to be notified later.
WBCS exam is one of the most sought-after state civil service exams in West Bengal. Conducted by the WBPSC, the exam takes place in three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and Interview. The entire process tests a candidate’s knowledge, aptitude, and personality for administrative duties.

To appear for WBCS 2025, candidates must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
Must be a citizen of India.
Must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Bengali, except those whose mother tongue is Nepali.
The WBCS exam consists of three stages:
Preliminary Exam: A single objective paper of 200 marks.
Mains Exam: Six compulsory papers and one optional subject (for certain groups).
Personality Test: Conducted for qualified candidates from the Mains stage.

The WBCS Syllabus has broad subjects.
For Prelims: General Knowledge, Indian History, Geography, Polity, Reasoning, and Current Affairs;
For Mains: Language papers, General Studies, Indian Constitution, Arithmetic, and Optional Subjects according to the candidate's preference.
The online application form for WBCS 2025 has been made available on the official WBPSC website, wbpsc.gov.in, from 18 November 2025 onwards and will remain active till 9 December 2025. Candidates must register, fill in personal and academic details, upload documents, and pay the exam fee online before the closing date.
The expected age limit for different groups is as follows:
Group A & C: 21 to 36 years
Group B (Police Service): 20 to 36 years
Group D: 21 to 39 years
Age relaxation is applicable for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government norms.
WBCS officers have a salary ranging between Rs. 56,100 and Rs. 1,44,300, depending on the respective post and group. Officers are also provided with regular allowances like DA, HRA, and various other benefits by the Government.
The recruitment process has three main stages: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Personality Test. Students must clear each stage for their names to be in the final merit list issued by the WBPSC.
WBCS 2025 Prelims is an objective screening test, while Mains consists of Descriptive papers, covering General Studies and optional subjects. Candidates who clear the Mains will then appear for the Interview.
The WBCS 2025 Admit Card will be released on the official WBPSC website a few weeks before the exam. Candidates must download and print it to appear for the exam, as it contains exam details, venue, and reporting time.
Results for each stage—Prelims, Mains, and Interview—will be declared separately on wbpsc.gov.in. Candidates can check their score and merit list using their registration details.
