Bihar School Special Teacher Eligibility Criteria 2025

For primary teachers, candidates need at least 50% marks in 12th and a D.Ed. in Special Education from an RCI-recognized institution, along with a valid RCI registration. For upper primary, a graduation with 50% marks and a B.Ed. in Special Education or equivalent is required. Candidates from the disability sector must undergo six months of teacher training. All qualifications must be recognized by the relevant authorities, ensuring standardized teacher quality in special education.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Extremely Backward Classes, Backward Classes, and Persons with Disabilities are given a relaxation of 5% in the minimum required educational and training qualifications. For the post of special school teacher, recognition from the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is mandatory, and the candidate must not have any disqualification as per RCI norms.

Bihar School Special Teacher Age Limit 2025

Bihar School Special Teacher age limit for 2025 as of August 1, 2025, the minimum age for all categories is 18 years. The maximum age is 37 years for unreserved males, 40 years for backward classes, extremely backward classes, and unreserved females, and 42 years for SC/ST (male and female). The retirement age is fixed at 60 years. 

Candidates who have qualified for the Bihar Special School Teacher Eligibility Test, 2023, and are being appointed in this first phase will get a relaxation of 10 years in the upper age limit as of August 1, 2023. For teachers already working in Panchayat or municipal institutions, the age limit for the post of special school teacher will be relaxed as per rules. Administrative and managerial posts will follow the age relaxation as per government notifications. Candidates appointed by the government on a contract basis before December 12, 2022, will also get a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit, provided they fulfill all other criteria.

For classes 6 to 8, a graduation degree with 50% marks and a B.Ed. in Special Education or equivalent from an RCI-recognized institute, plus six months of cross-disability training and a valid CRR number, is mandatory. Clearing the BSSTET exam is also required for both levels
