UP PGT Selection Process 2026: UP PGT Selection Process 2026 is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) to recruit Post Graduate Teachers (Lecturers) across government-aided secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh. Candidates aiming for PGT posts must navigate a multi-stage evaluation framework designed to assess domain knowledge, teaching aptitude, and academic achievements.

Unlike the Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) recruitment which relies solely on a written examination, the Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) selection process integrates a written examination, an oral interview, and special academic weightage points.

UP PGT 2026 Step-by-Step Selection Flow

Step- by- step selection flow is given below:

  1. Online Application Submission: Candidates submit their registration forms on the official portal (upessc.up.gov.in).

  2. Written Examination: Candidates sit for the 125-question objective CBT/OMR test.

  3. Shortlisting for Interview: A provisional list of shortlisted candidates is published based on written exam scores (typically in a 1:3 ratio relative to vacant posts).

  4. Interview & Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates present original educational credentials, caste certificates, and experience documents while attending the oral interview.

  5. Final Merit List Declaration: UPESSC aggregates marks from the Written Exam (out of 425), Interview (out of 50), and Special Qualifications (out of 25) to publish the final selection list and college allocation orders.

UP PGT 2026 Interview and Merit Resolution Criteria

Candidates who clear the written cutoff receive interview call letters at least 10 days before the scheduled date. The personal interview carries 40 marks, and attendance is mandatory for final appointment. Candidates must present original academic certificates, category certificates, character certificates, and the Appendix-6 affidavit during document verification.

When two or more candidates secure identical aggregate marks out of 400, ties are resolved using these sequential rules:

  1. Candidate with higher marks in the written examination gets priority.

  2. Candidate with higher marks in the interview receives priority if written scores match.

  3. Higher percentage in the relevant Postgraduate degree breaks remaining ties.

  4. Higher percentage in professional teacher training (B.Ed / M.P.Ed) determines rank if PG scores match.

  5. Older candidate takes precedence if all academic criteria remain equal.

UP PGT 2026 Important Instructions & Guidelines

Applicants must complete One Time Registration on the official portal (To be released) before submitting forms. Candidates must use only a black ballpoint pen to shade answers on the OMR sheet. Eligible PwD applicants using a scribe receive 20 minutes of compensatory time per examination hour.
