The Kerala SET is an important exam for aspiring teachers in Kerala, and the eligibility criteria for it have been updated for the January 2025 cycle. To be eligible for Kerala SET January 2025, candidates must meet specific educational qualifications, which are given below.- Eligibility for the Kerala SET January 2025 requires candidates to possess a Master's Degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks or equivalent grade, along with a B.Ed. degree from a recognized university in Kerala or its equivalent.
- Candidates applying for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology must have an MSc.Ed degree with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade from any of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT.
- Candidates applying for Botany and Zoology can also have an MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science with not less than 50% marks from any of the Regional Institutes of Education.
- For subjects like Anthropology, Gandhian Studies, Geology, Commerce, Home Science, Journalism, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Statistics, a B.Ed. degree is not mandatory for SET eligibility.
- Candidates with a second class Master’s Degree in Communicative English with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed. degree are eligible to appear for SET in English.
- Candidates with DLEd/LTTC in Arabic, Urdu, and Hindi but without a B.Ed. degree are eligible to apply for SET January 2025.
- For Biotechnology, candidates must hold a Master's degree in Biotechnology with a minimum of 50% marks and a B.Ed. degree in natural science to be eligible for SET.
- Candidates with a B.Ed. Degree in Hindi from Dakshin Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha are exempted from providing an equivalency certificate, as the degree is recognized by universities in Kerala.
- Candidates with qualifications obtained from Correspondence Courses/Open Universities not recognized by any university in Kerala are ineligible for SET.
- Candidates with qualifications from recognized Correspondence Courses/Open Universities or from universities outside Kerala must obtain recognition and equivalency certificates from a Kerala university.
- Candidates with qualifications in subjects not mentioned in the eligibility criteria must provide an equivalency and eligibility certificate from a Kerala university.
- Candidates who have completed their Master’s Degree with the required minimum marks and are in the final year of their B.Ed. program or postgraduate program are eligible to apply for SET. However, they must pass their qualifying examination within one year from the date of SET results publication, failing which they will be disqualified.
