The Kerala SET Eligibility Criteria 2026 is defined by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology. It applies to candidates aspiring to become Higher Secondary School Teachers in Kerala. To appear for the Kerala State Eligibility Test (SET-January-2026), candidates must meet specific academic qualifications, age rules, and relaxation norms as per the official notification.
Candidates must fulfill the following educational requirements for Kerala SET 2026:
A Master’s Degree with at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the relevant subject is required. This must be accompanied by a B.Ed. Degree in any discipline from a recognized university in Kerala or its equivalent.
For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, M.Sc.Ed from NCERT’s Regional Institutes of Education (with 50% marks) is accepted.
For Life Science, M.Sc.Ed in Life Science (50% marks) is accepted.
A B.Ed. degree is not mandatory for subjects such as Commerce, French, German, Geology, Home Science, Journalism, Latin, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Russian, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, and Syriac.
Communicative English postgraduates with a Second Class Master’s Degree and a B.Ed. are eligible for SET English.
Arabic, Hindi, and Urdu candidates with DLEd/LTTC (without B.Ed.) can apply as per Government orders.
Biotechnology postgraduates with 50% marks are eligible.
Additional Eligibility Guidelines:
A B.Ed. in Hindi from Dakshin Bharatha Hindi Prachar Sabha is recognized and exempt from equivalency proof.
Qualifications obtained through recognized distance or open universities are accepted. Equivalency certificates from a Kerala university must be submitted.
Candidates holding qualifications in subjects not listed must submit eligibility and equivalency certificates from a recognized Kerala university.
Final-year B.Ed. or PG students can apply provisionally. They must pass with required marks within one year of the result declaration.
There is no upper age limit for appearing in the Kerala SET January 2026 examination.
Candidates belonging to SC, ST, and Differently Abled categories receive a 5% relaxation in the minimum marks required for eligibility.
