UG, PG Aspirants Can Seek Admission in Any Discipline: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced new draft guidelines to make undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) education more flexible and inclusive for students. These changes aim to give students the freedom to explore various fields of study and select courses based on their interests, regardless of their previous subjects.
A key change is the introduction of multiple entry and exit points, allowing students to pause their studies and resume later without losing progress. Additionally, students can now pursue two UG or PG programs at the same time, providing greater flexibility in their academic paths. UGC Chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar emphasized that students are no longer limited by their past subjects. As long as they meet entrance exam requirements, students can apply for any UG or PG program. This change encourages students to try new fields and career options. The guidelines also give universities the autonomy to set their own attendance requirements, allowing them to adapt to specific course needs. Another major change is how credits are earned. Students can now earn 50% of their credits in their major subject, with the rest available for skill development or interdisciplinary learning. This shift promotes a well-rounded education, preparing students for a diverse range of careers by giving them both academic knowledge and practical skills.
