Candidates need to follow the simple steps to fill out the UGC NET Application Form 2026 through the online mode itself.
Step 1: Registration – Go to the NTA website and sign up using a personal email address and mobile number.
Step 2: Fill Form – Log in and fill in all the required details like name and address. Note down the application number the system gives you.
Step 3: Upload Photos – Upload a live photograph and a scanned signature.
Step 4: Pay Fee – Pay the exam fee using a bank card or UPI.
Step 5: Print – Save and print the confirmation page for your records.
UGC NET Application Fee 2026 depends on the category of the candidates who need to fill out the application form. The fee is non-refundable. Pay the fee before the deadline to submit the application form.

To be eligible for the UGC NET Exam 2026, candidates must meet the following simple requirements:
Degree Needed: You must have a Master’s Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognised university.
Minimum Marks: General Category: You need at least 55% marks in your Master's degree.
Reserved Categories: If you belong to OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD, or Third Gender, you only need 50% marks.
Final Year Students: If you are currently in the final year of your Master's degree or waiting for results, you can still apply. However, you must finish your degree with the required marks within two years of passing the NET exam.
Subject Choice: You should generally take the exam in the same subject you studied for your Post-Graduation.
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):
You must not be older than 30 years as of June 1, 2026.
Relaxation: Women and candidates from OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender categories get up to 5 years of extra time (up to age 35).
Assistant Professor:
There is no upper age limit for those applying for the post of Assistant Professor.
Transgender Candidates: Candidates in this category receive the same relaxations in fee, age, and qualifying marks as SC/ST candidates.
Ph.D. Holders: If you finished your Master’s degree before September 19, 1991, you get a 5% relaxation in marks (from 55% to 50%) for appearing in the NET.
