The UGC-NET now classifies successful candidates into three distinct categories based on their performance and eligibility criteria:
Qualifying for JRF is the most prestigious outcome, typically awarded to the top rankers.
Benefits: Monthly fellowship of approximately ₹37,000 for the first two years (Junior Research Fellow), increasing to ₹42,000 for the remaining three years (Senior Research Fellow).
Scope: You are eligible for PhD admission with financial support and can also apply for Assistant Professor positions nationwide.
These candidates have cleared the cut-off for teaching roles but fall just outside the JRF merit list.
Benefits: Lifetime validity for the Assistant Professor eligibility certificate.
Scope: Eligible for direct recruitment to faculty positions and admission to PhD programs, though without the central JRF stipend.
A newer category designed to streamline research entries.
Benefits: Exemption from various university-level PhD entrance exams.
Validity: For those in this category, the NET marks remain valid for PhD admission for one year from the result declaration date.
NTA implemented strict monitoring measures to ensure fair conduct:
Central control room set up at NTA premises
Virtual observers deployed at all exam centres
Around 41,500 CCTV cameras are installed
Approximately 52,500 jammers are used across all shifts to prevent mobile-based malpractice
These measures ensured a secure and malpractice-free examination environment.
If you have qualified, your next steps involve preparing for the academic and professional market:
E-Certificates: NTA will issue digital certificates separately to qualified candidates in due course.
PhD Interviews: For PhD admissions, UGC-NET scores carry 70% weightage, with the remaining 30% weightage given to interviews or viva voce conducted by respective universities.
Recruitment: Keep a close watch on university portals and the "UGC Job Portal" for Assistant Professor vacancies.
For candidates who did not qualify this time, the next cycle is just around the corner, as NTA typically conducts this exam twice a year in June and December.
