The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) in Library and Information Science is an essential test for individuals hoping to work as professors or as researchers in Indian colleges and universities. The following qualifications are needed to be eligible for the 2024 UGC NET Library and Information Science Exam:Educational Qualification
- Candidates must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation Science from a recognized university.
- The degree should be recognized by UGC.
- Applicants may be those who have taken and are awaiting the results of their final year Master's degree exams. Such applicants must complete their Master's degree to be admitted provisionally.
- To appear in the NET, candidates with a Ph.D. who passed their Master's level test before September 19, 1991, (regardless of the date the results were announced), may receive a 5% aggregate mark relaxation.
Minimum Marks
- Candidates for General, Unreserved, and General-EWS must receive at least 55% of the possible points in their master's degree or an equivalent exam.
- Candidates belonging to the OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Transgender categories must secure at least 50% aggregate marks in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination.
Age Limit
- There is no upper age limit for applying for the Assistant Professor post through UGC NET.
- However, there might be an age limit for eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) if it's offered (typically 30 years).
Nationality
- You must be a citizen of India.
