  • You must possess a Master's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism (M.A. MCJ) or a related field (e.g., Communication Studies, Journalism) from a recognized university/institution as listed on the UGC website.
  • The degree must be recognized by UGC.
  • Those who have taken and are awaiting the results of their Master's degree final exams may be eligible to apply. For such applicants to be granted provisional admission, they must successfully complete their Master's degree.
  • Candidates having a Ph.D. who passed their Master's level exam before September 19, 1991 (independent of the date the results were announced) may be eligible for a 5% aggregate mark reduction in order to appear in the NET.

  • The minimum marks required for a Master's degree program may vary based on the category, with General/Unreserved/EWS requiring 55% marks and OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender requiring 50% marks.
  • If you are appearing for the exam in the year you complete your Master's degree, ensure you'll be able to meet the minimum percentage requirement by the time the results are declared.

  • The UGC NET application process does not have an upper age limit for the Assistant Professor position.
