Early Life and Education of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He came from a simple family. His father had a small boat and worked as an imam, and his mother looked after the home.

As a child, Kalam was very curious and loved learning. He went to Schwartz Higher Secondary School in Ramanathapuram and finished his physics degree from St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli, in 1954. Later, he followed his dream of flying and studied aeronautical engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT).

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Legacy and Work

Kalam began his career in 1960 at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), where he worked on hovercraft projects. Later, he joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and led India’s first satellite launch vehicle (SLV-III).

Kalam led India’s first successful satellite launch in 1980 and later headed the missile program, earning the title “Missile Man of India.” He became India’s 11th President in 2002, inspiring students and citizens with his humility and vision for a developed India through education and innovation. Even after his presidency, he visited schools and colleges, motivating students about hard work, teamwork, and imagination. He aimed to meet over 1 lakh students, believing youth and education were key to India’s progress.
