Rashtriya Poshan Maah will be celebrated in India across September 2025. It is the 8th edition of this initiative, launched for the first time in the year 2018. The initiative this year focuses on several prevailing challenges, including Anaemia prevention, growth monitoring, complementary feeding, technology campaign, and more.
The Rashtriya Poshan Maah is seen as part of the larger Jan Andolan, or the People’s Movement, to promote awareness of nutrition literacy and the significance of good eating habits in our lives. The 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah aims to ensure that nutrition becomes a part of every citizen's life in the country.
India will be observing the Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025 between September 12 to October 11, 2025. Nutrition is considered to be an essential part of good health, development, and equality. The 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah is a nationwide movement aiming for better health outcomes for the citizens.
This year, the initiative aims to increase the objectives of the Mission Sakhsam Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 programmes by including the community members in the local awareness programs, conversations, and events. The importance of the Rashtriya Poshan Maah lies in its holistic approach to address issues like malnutrition, undernutrition, overnutrition, dietary diversity, environmental concerns, and community participation.
The key themes of the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025 can be summarized as follows:
Addressing Obesity - Reducing Sugar and Oil Consumption - The initiative focuses on tackling undernutrition by raising awareness on promoting healthy habits like reducing the intake of sugar and the use of less oil in food preparation.
Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)/Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi (PBPB) - To help India in developing the world’s largest preschool network in accordance with the new National Education Policy.
Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam - Focuses on combining environmental sustainability with nutritional awareness.
Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Practices - It aims to improve the feeding practices among infants and children under 2 years of age to improve their nutritional outcomes.
Men’s Involvement in Nutrition and Caregiving - Through this initiative, men are encouraged to actively be involved in nutrition awareness and caregiving roles.
It is a mobile-based application launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in India in 2021. The technology under the Poshan Tracker is being used for the identification of stunting, wasting, and the prevalence of underweight among children in India. It is also tracking the last-mile nutrition service delivery. Other details related to Poshan Tracker are as follows:
The Poshan Tracker App was developed by the National e-Governance Division. It empowers the Anganwadi Workers to register beneficiaries, track growth, and deliver health services.
These services enable to improvement of governance and the reduction of malnutrition by providing real-time data on nutrition indicators.
The key features of the Poshan Tracker include Aadhar-based e-KYC, growth monitoring using WHO standards, and reporting tools for government authorities.
With this app, a Poshan Tracker Calculator is developed, which measures the growth of a child based on the standards set by the World Health Organization and also suggests corrective measures depending on the inputs.
