UPSC Notification 2026 Changes

UPSC Notification 2026 Changes have been mentioned in the official notification by the exam conducting authority. Candidates should carefully note down the UPSC CSE 2026 Notification to proceed with the application process properly.

1. New Four-Stage Application Process

The application portal has been upgraded. Instead of a single form, candidates must now navigate through four distinct parts:

  • Part-I: OTR (One-Time Registration) Profile creation.

  • Part-II: Filling the main Application Form.

  • Part-III: DAF (Detailed Application Form) entry, including service preferences.

  • Part-IV: Fee payment, uploading documents, and centre selection.

2. Mandatory Live Photo Capture

To prevent fraud, candidates are now required to capture a live photograph using their webcam or phone camera during the application process. This is in addition to uploading a standard passport-size photo.

3. New Signature Upload Rule

The signature must be uploaded in a specific format (JPG, 20 KB to 300 KB). Unlike previous years, the signature must be clearly visible and match the one used during the actual exam day to avoid disqualification. Sign three times using the black ink on the white paper.

4. Aadhaar-Based Verification

While not strictly mandatory for everyone, UPSC "strongly encourages" Aadhaar-based verification. Linking your Aadhaar to your OTR profile helps in faster identity verification at exam centres using biometric or facial recognition.

5. No Correction or Withdrawal Window

A major change is that UPSC has removed the facility to withdraw applications. Once you submit your form and pay the fee, you cannot take it back. Additionally, corrections are only allowed during a very limited "edit window" immediately after the application deadline.

6. One-Time URN Update

Candidates are now issued a Unique Registration Number (URN). Candidates are allowed to update their UTR/OTR profile only once in a lifetime after registration. Any further changes will require special permission or remain permanent for all future UPSC attempts.

7. DAF Submission during Application

Previously, the Detailed Application Form (DAF) was filledout after clearing the Prelims. Now, certain elements of the DAF (like service preferences) are integrated into the initial application process itself to streamline the recruitment timeline.

8. The "One-Attempt" Rule

Candidates selected in CSE 2026 for IPS or Group 'A' services get only one improvement attempt (in CSE 2027). To make any further attempts after that, they must resign from their service.

9. Online Admit Card Only

UPSC has shifted to provide the UPSC exam admit card only through the official website. Candidates would not get the call letters for the exam through the post.

PwBD category holds the right to choose their desired centres for appearing in the UPSC Civil Services Exam.

  • After Prelims: Within 10 days of the Prelims result being declared, a candidate must log in to update/confirm their details.

  • After Mains: Within 15 days of the Mains written result, another login is mandatory to complete the process for the interview.

  • Warning: If any candidate forgets to log in during these windows,  candidacy will be cancelled, have passed the exam.
