The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will release the Provisional Answer Key for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 after the completion of the examination held on 24 May 2026. This step is part of UPSC’s effort to improve transparency in the examination process. The provisional answer key allows candidates to review the officially accepted answers for both papers and raise objections if they find any discrepancy. Unlike earlier years where answer keys were released much later, UPSC is now making the process more candidate-friendly by introducing an early provisional release along with an objection facility.

After UPSC uploads the answer key, candidates can follow these steps:
Visit the official UPSC website (upsc.gov.in)
Go to the “Examinations” section
Click on “Answer Keys”
Select “Civil Services (Prelims) 2026”
Download GS Paper 1 and CSAT Paper 2 PDFs
Match answers with your responses carefully
This process helps candidates understand their performance before the result declaration.
Candidates can estimate their score using the provisional answer key by:
Matching each response with the official answer key
Adding marks for every correct answer
Applying negative marking for wrong answers
Leaving unattempted questions without deduction
Calculating total estimated score carefully
This gives a realistic idea of qualification chances for the Mains stage.
For the first time, UPSC allows candidates to formally challenge answers through the Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep).
Login to QPRep portal
Select the question you want to challenge
Mention the answer you believe is correct
Write a brief explanation
Upload supporting proof from authentic sources
All objections submitted within the deadline (expected 31 May 2026, 6:00 PM) will be reviewed before finalization of the answer key.
