The IOCL JE Syllabus 2026 includes common subjects and post-specific technical subjects. Verbal Ability of English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Logical Reasoning are common to all posts. IOCL JE Syllabus for Diploma Safety

The Diploma Safety syllabus applies to Grade E0. It covers industrial safety, industrial hazards, fire safety, electrical safety, mechanical safety, chemical safety, construction safety, maintenance safety, and industrial legislation and labour laws.

Introduction to Industrial Safety

This section covers the fundamentals of industrial safety and the importance of workplace safety. It includes safety laws and regulations, occupational health and safety standards, Safety Management Systems (SMS), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

You also need to study emergency response planning, accident investigation and reporting, and Behavior-Based Safety (BBS). BBS includes human factors in safety, motivation, safety culture development, and psychological aspects of accidents.

Industrial Hazards and Risk Management

This section covers physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards. It also includes fire and explosion hazards, electrical hazards and safety measures, chemical exposure and toxicity management, and noise and vibration hazards.

Confined space safety, working at heights safety, machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), radiation hazards, and control measures are also included.

Fire Prevention and Safety Management

This section covers the causes and classification of fires. It includes fire prevention strategies, fire detection and alarm systems, and fire extinguishers.

You need to study the types and usage of fire extinguishers. Fixed fire suppression systems include sprinklers, CO2, and foam. The syllabus also covers emergency evacuation procedures, fire safety drills and training, and handling of flammable and combustible materials.

Electrical Safety and Hazard Control

This section covers the basics of electrical safety and electrical accidents and their causes. It includes electrical protective devices such as circuit breakers, fuses, and RCDs.

You also need to study earthing and grounding systems, electrical maintenance practices, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and the safe use of electrical tools and equipment.

Mechanical Safety and Machine Maintenance

This section covers mechanical hazards and the safe use of industrial machinery. It includes preventive maintenance, lubrication, and wear prevention.

Bearing and gear maintenance, vibration analysis for fault detection, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and safety in heavy machinery operations are also included.

Chemical Safety and Hazardous Material Handling

This section covers the classification of hazardous substances. It also includes Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labelling, safe storage and transportation of chemicals, and chemical spill management and response.

You need to study toxicology and exposure limits, personal protective measures for chemical handling, hazardous waste management and disposal, and industrial ventilation and fume control.

The syllabus also includes safety mandates for bulk storage tanks, pipelines, gas cylinders, and hazardous chemical transportation.

Construction Safety

The Construction Safety section covers safety in excavation, scaffolding, demolition, piling, and working at heights.

Maintenance Safety

The Maintenance Safety section covers confined space entry protocols, work permits, and safety during shutdowns.

Industrial Legislation and Labour Laws

This section includes the Factories Act, 1948. It covers the roles and responsibilities of a Safety Officer and the detailed study of Chapters IV (Safety), IV-A (Hazardous Processes), and V (Welfare).

The syllabus also includes the Environment Protection Act, 1986. You need to study rules on hazardous waste management and air and water pollution control boards.

The Petroleum Act, the Explosives Act, and the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act are also included.
