Rohit Kumar’s RRB JE 2025 Success Story with PW

For Rohit Kumar from Bihar, an earlier SSC JE attempt showed him that a good preliminary score alone was not enough. He had scored 134 marks in the previous SSC JE prelims, but while working at the time, he could not prepare adequately for the mains.

Instead of repeating the same preparation strategy, Rohit identified the areas he had overlooked. He began focusing more on complete syllabus coverage, question practice, mock-test analysis and revision. He also prepared for RRB JE alongside SSC JE, giving particular attention to Maths and Technical subjects.

His revised approach eventually helped him clear RRB JE 2025 and SSC JE, with RRB JE qualification from the Mumbai Zone and allotment to the Works Department, while he also cleared SSC JE and was allotted the MES Department.

How Rohit Kumar Changed His Preparation After an SSC JE Setback

Rohit is from Bihar and had completed his BTech before preparing for government engineering exams. His journey was not without setbacks.

He had appeared for SSC JE earlier but could not qualify the final stage. Instead of treating the result as the end of his journey, he looked at what went wrong and changed his preparation.

His experience is a reminder that one unsuccessful attempt can also show you where your preparation needs to change.

What Did Rohit Learn From His Previous SSC JE Attempt?

Rohit had scored 134 marks in the previous SSC JE prelims, which was a good score. However, he could not prepare properly for the mains because he was working at that time.

Talking about his previous attempt, Rohit said:

“Us time job mein tha, toh utna time nahi mil paaya tha. Main mains ke liye properly padh nahi paaya tha.”

For his next attempt, he made question practice a bigger part of his preparation.

He also focused more on the Technical section and used PW One Shots for revision.

“Is baar mains ke liye specially question practice kiya tha. Physics Wallah ka bhi One Shot dekha tha, toh woh kaafi helpful tha.”

Rohit Focused More on Technical Subjects

One major change in Rohit's preparation was giving more attention to Technical subjects.

He realised that simply performing well in the preliminary stage was not enough. He needed to cover the syllabus properly and prepare for the questions that could appear in the next stage.

He also worked on topics that he had ignored earlier.

For example, Steel was one subject he had not prepared properly in his previous attempt. This time, he covered it in detail.

The result showed why complete syllabus coverage matters. According to Rohit, around 9–10 questions came from Steel in the SSC JE mains paper, and he was able to answer them correctly.

“Is baar Steel mein padha tha aur SSC mains ke paper mein almost 9–10 questions Steel se the, aur mere saare correct the.”

His experience shows why students should avoid completely leaving a subject just because they consider it less important.

Rohit Kumar Says Do Not Leave Parts of the Syllabus Completely

Rohit explained that students often give priority to topics from which they expect more questions. However, questions can also come from areas they have given less attention to.

He had personally experienced the impact of leaving certain areas.

“Har subject thoda-thoda at least padh ke jaana chahiye.”

For students targeting specific departments or better ranks, even a few additional correct answers can make a difference.

His advice was to give more practice to areas with a higher number of questions while still covering the rest of the syllabus.

How Rohit Prepared for RRB JE

For RRB JE, Rohit had to work particularly on Maths.

He admitted that Maths was not his strong area when he started his preparation.

“Mere ko Maths nahi aata tha tab. Toh sabse pehle main Maths padha.”

He also stressed the importance of solving RRB JE PYQs.

“Railway karna hai toh PYQ zaroor lagana chahiye.”

For him, PYQs helped him understand the type of questions asked and identify areas that required more practice.

Rohit Kumar Prepared for RRB JE and SSC JE Together

Rohit prepared for both RRB JE and SSC JE and found that there was considerable overlap between the two examinations.

According to him, students mainly need to add some extra preparation for RRB JE, especially in Maths and certain Technical areas.

“Kuch wahan pe difference nahi hai. Waise aapko Maths extra padhna padega RRB ke liye. Baaki saara syllabus same hai.”

He also pointed out that some Technical topics can differ between the examinations.

For RRB JE, topics such as Building Construction require additional attention depending on the student's branch and preparation.

Maths Was an Important Part of Rohit's RRB JE Preparation

Rohit gave special importance to Maths because he knew that it was essential for the Railway examination.

Instead of avoiding the subject because it was difficult for him initially, he started with the basics and then moved towards question practice.

His approach can be useful for students who feel that Maths is their weak area. Rather than waiting until the end, they can start working on it early and practise regularly.

Mock Test Analysis Helped Rohit Find His Weak Areas

For Rohit, taking a mock test was only one part of the preparation. Analysing the mock was equally important.

He spent significant time checking his mistakes after completing a test.

“Mock toh mera डेढ़ घंटे mein ho jaata tha, lekin analysis mein do ghante plus lagta tha.”

This helped him identify the subjects and question types where he was losing marks.

He specifically noticed that some questions from Steel and Railway-related topics were either going wrong or were being left unattempted.

This showed him exactly where he needed to work.

Rohit Says Mock-Test Analysis Is More Important Than Just Giving Tests

Many students take mock tests, check their scores and move on to the next test. Rohit followed a different approach.

He wanted to understand why he lost marks.

His focus was not just on increasing the number of tests but also on learning from every test.

“Analysis bahut zaroori hai, kyunki analysis se hi pata chalega mera particularly kis subject mein problem hai.”

He also shared an important lesson:

“Galtiyan karna galat baat nahi hai. Galtiyan repeat karna sabse badi galti hai.”

This became one of the most important parts of his preparation.

Rohit Made a Mistake Book for Revision

When the exam was approaching, Rohit did not try to revise everything from the beginning.

He collected questions and concepts that he had got wrong or did not know properly.

Since writing a separate notebook was not always convenient for him, he used screenshots and created a PDF.

“Main kya karta tha, screenshot leke rakh rakha tha. Uska PDF bana liya tha.”

He then revised these mistakes multiple times before the exam.

According to him, this helped him correct several questions in the actual examination.

“Jo jo cheez mere ko nahi aati thi ya jo question galat hua tha, usi ko last time do-teen baar padha tha.”

This approach helped him turn previous mistakes into revision material.

PW One Shots Helped Rohit With Revision

Rohit also used PW One Shots during his preparation, particularly while preparing Technical subjects.

He found them useful for revising important concepts and questions within a shorter time.

“Physics Wallah ka bhi One Shot dekha tha, toh woh kaafi helpful tha is baar.”

For students who have already studied a topic and want to revise it, One Shot sessions can be used along with question practice and PYQs.

Rohit Says Students Should Complete the Syllabus

One of the biggest lessons from Rohit's journey is the importance of syllabus coverage.

He had seen the impact of leaving subjects in his earlier preparation. This time, he tried to cover the areas that he had previously ignored.

His message to first-time aspirants was simple:

“Sabse pehle syllabus complete karne pe focus karo.”

After completing the syllabus, students should continue with questions and revision rather than waiting until the final weeks.

Rohit Kumar Says Revision Should Continue Along With Preparation

Rohit also highlighted a common problem among aspirants: completing an entire subject but not revising it.

He explained that students can forget concepts if they do not revise them regularly.

“Jo jo hum padhte ja rahe hain, usko revision saath hi saath karte chalna chahiye.”

His preparation therefore included three important activities:

  • Syllabus completion

  • Question practice

  • Regular revision

Rohit Kumar Says Do Not Ignore GK Completely

Rohit also learnt an important lesson from his SSC JE prelims score.

He had not given enough attention to GK and scored only around 7 marks out of 50 in that section.

He later realised that even a few additional marks could have made a difference in his preferred department options.

“Agar main 9–10 number bhi le aata, toh mera CPWD eligible ho jaata.”

This made him realise that completely ignoring a section can affect the final outcome.

His advice is to give more time to the areas that carry greater importance while still preparing the other sections at a basic level.

How Rohit Kumar Prepared in the Last Month

Rohit believes that the last month should not be used to learn the entire syllabus again.

Instead, students should focus on revision and practice.

His last-month preparation included:

  • Short notes

  • Mistake questions

  • PYQs

  • Mock tests

  • Mock-test analysis

  • Repeated revision

He said:

“Last month mein short notes dekho aur jitne questions laga sakte ho, utne questions lagao.”

The aim is to reach a stage where you can quickly recognise the approach needed to solve a question.

“Question saamne aate hi picture click honi chahiye ki iska solution kaise niklega. Ye practice se aata hai.”

Rohit Advises Students Not to Follow Too Many Sources

Another important lesson from Rohit's preparation is to avoid continuously switching between teachers and study materials.

Using too many sources can make preparation confusing because the same topic may be taught through different approaches.

Rohit advised students to select a reliable source and revise it properly.

“Aapko chaar-paanch sources ke peeche nahi bhaagna hai.”

He further explained:

“Content kam padho, lekin usko itna achhe se padho ki usmein se question aaye toh solve ho jaaye.”

The focus should be on understanding and practising rather than collecting more and more study material.

Rohit's Advice on Consistency

Rohit believes that government exam preparation requires time and regular effort.

He does not recommend expecting selection after studying seriously for only a month.

“Ek month mein selection chahiye, aisa nahi hota. Aapko continuously six ya eight months preparation karni padegi.”

According to him, maintaining the study flow for several months is important.

“Aapko six-seven months ka flow maintain karna padega.”

Regular study, revision and question practice helped him stay connected with the preparation.

Rohit's Message to Students Preparing for RRB JE

Rohit's journey from an unsuccessful SSC JE attempt to clearing both SSC JE and RRB JE 2025 shows how changing the preparation strategy can make a difference.

His focus was not on finding a shortcut. Instead, he worked on the areas he had missed earlier, practised questions, analysed his mistakes and revised them repeatedly.

For students preparing for their first attempt, his message is straightforward:

“Pehle syllabus complete karo. Syllabus ke saath-saath at least questions kuch na kuch practice karte raho.”

He also stressed the importance of combining revision with mock tests and analysis.

“Revision karo, mock test do, analysis karo. Ye teen-chaar cheezein aapko saath mein karni hain.”

Rohit's final message is that there is no single trick that guarantees success. Preparation is a process that requires regular study, practice and revision.

“Koi alag ghutti nahi aati jo aap pee loge aur yaad ho jayega. Ek process hai, normal process hai, rigorous process hai.”

For future RRB JE aspirants, his journey highlights the importance of completing the syllabus, practising PYQs, analysing mock tests, revising mistakes and staying consistent throughout the preparation.
