The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Junior Engineer examination to recruit candidates for Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Telecom engineering posts in various Central Government departments. SSC JE 2026 Vacancy

The SSC JE 2026 vacancy has been announced through the official notification. The Commission has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies for the recruitment of Junior Engineers and Scientific Assistant in IMD. The post-wise and category-wise final vacancies will be made available on the official SSC website.

Candidates should note that SSC does not collect State-wise or Zone-wise vacancy details. For information regarding State-wise or Zone-wise vacancies, candidates need to approach the concerned User Department.

Recruitment is being conducted for posts in departments and organisations such as:

  • Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

  • Brahmaputra Board

  • Central Water Commission (CWC)

  • Central Public Works Department (CPWD)

  • Central Water and Power Research Station

  • DGQA-NAVAL, Ministry of Defence

  • Farakka Barrage Project

  • Military Engineer Services (MES)

  • National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO)

SSC JE 2026 Eligibility

Candidates must satisfy the eligibility conditions prescribed in the official SSC JE 2026 notification. The educational qualification and age limit vary according to the post and department.

Educational Qualification

Candidates should possess a relevant Degree or Diploma in the prescribed engineering discipline. Some posts also require relevant work experience along with the Diploma qualification. For Scientific Assistant in IMD, candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects from a recognised institution or university, or a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering, or Communication Engineering from a recognised institution or university. Candidates possessing the second qualification must also have passed Class XII examination from a recognised Board with Physics and Mathematics as one of the subjects, as prescribed in the latest addendum.

Age Limit

The maximum age limit for SSC JE 2026 depends on the post and department:

  • Up to 30 years

  • Up to 32 years

The crucial date for determining the age limit is August 1, 2026. The prescribed age relaxation will be applicable to eligible reserved category candidates as per Government rules.

Nationality

Candidates must satisfy the nationality requirements prescribed by the Government of India and mentioned in the SSC JE 2026 notification.

SSC JE 2026 Application Process

The SSC JE 2026 application process is conducted online through the official SSC website or the mySSC mobile application. Candidates must first complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website before filling out the application form. The OTR generated on the old SSC website will not be functional on the new website.

Follow these steps:

  1. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website.

  2. Log in using your Registration Number and password.

  3. Click the Apply link under the Junior Engineer Examination 2026 section.

  4. Fill in the required application details and select the relevant post and examination subject.

  5. Complete the real-time photograph capture and upload the required signature and documents, wherever applicable.

  6. Pay the application fee, if applicable.

  7. Submit the form and save a copy of the completed application for future reference.

Candidates are advised to opt for Aadhaar-Based Authentication while completing the OTR process. The application module also captures a real-time photograph while filling out the application form.

SSC JE 2026 Application Fee

The SSC JE 2026 application fee is ₹100. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from payment of the application fee.

The application fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit Card. The last date for fee payment is September 23, 2026, up to 11:00 PM.

SSC JE 2026 Selection Process

The SSC JE 2026 selection process consists of two computer-based examinations followed by Document Verification. Paper-I is qualifying in nature, while the final selection and allocation of posts are based on performance in Paper-II and the preference of Post/Organization/Office exercised by the candidates.

Separate select lists are prepared for JE (Civil), JE (Electrical & Mechanical), JE (Telecom), and Scientific Assistant in IMD based on post preference-cum-normalized marks obtained in Paper-II, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions and other provisions of the notification.

SSC JE 2026 Exam Pattern

The SSC JE 2026 examination consists of two computer-based papers. Paper-I includes General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and the relevant General Engineering subject. Paper-II focuses on the subject opted by the candidate according to their educational qualification.

  • Candidates eligible for a scribe as per the notification will receive 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour of examination.

SSC JE 2026 Syllabus

The SSC JE 2026 syllabus is prescribed separately according to the post and educational qualification. Candidates have to select the relevant subject or stream while filling out the Online Application Form, and the opted subject cannot be changed later.

  • General Engineering as per the selected post/subject

Paper-II

Candidates attempt the subject corresponding to their selected post and educational qualification:

  • Civil Engineering: General Engineering (Civil & Structural)

  • Electrical Engineering: General Engineering (Electrical)

  • Mechanical Engineering: General Engineering (Mechanical)

  • Scientific Assistant in IMD: General Engineering (Computer Science and Information Technology), General Engineering (Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering), or Physics

  • Telecom Engineering: Telecommunication Engineering

The relevant General Engineering and technical syllabus is prescribed by SSC in the official notification.

SSC JE 2026 Salary

Candidates selected through SSC JE 2026 will be appointed to the notified posts under Pay Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The pay scale is ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400. In addition to the basic pay, selected candidates will receive applicable allowances and benefits as per Central Government rules.
