2026 eligibility requires candidates to be aged between 21 and 30 years for the general category, with relaxation of 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates as per government norms. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university, and final-year students are also eligible to apply provisionally if they can provide proof of graduation before the interview stage.

NOTE: Cumulative age relaxation will not be available either under the above items or in combination with any other items. Candidates seeking age relaxation are required to submit copies of necessary certificate(s) at the time of Group exercise/interview, if shortlisted. No change in the category of any candidate is permitted after registration of online application, no correspondence/email/phone will be entertained in this regard.

SBI PO Educational Qualification 2026

To be eligible for the SBI PO Exam, candidates need to have a minimum educational qualification. Here's what you need to know:
  • You must have a graduation degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification approved by the Central Government. This qualification can be in any field.
  • Even if you're in your final year of graduation, you can still apply for the SBI PO Exam 2026. However, you'll need to show proof of passing your graduation when you're called for an interview.
  • The date of passing your eligibility exam will be the date mentioned on your mark sheet or provisional certificate from your university or institute.
  • If the exam result is available online, the publication date will be considered your passing date.
  • When filling out the online application, you must mention the percentage you achieved in your graduation, rounded to the nearest two decimal points.
  • If your grades are mentioned as CGPA or OGPA, you need to convert them into percentages for the application.
  • When it comes to percentages, small fractions like 0.01% are ignored. For instance, 59.99% is considered less than 60%, and 54.99% is considered less than 55%.
  • The passing date of the SBI PO educational qualification appears on the mark sheet or provisional certificate from the university/institute
  • If the result of any examination is posted on the website of the University/ Institute and a certificate is issued by the appropriate authority of the University/ Institute indicating the date on which the result was posted on the website, it is taken as the passing date.

Can Final Year Students Apply for SBI PO 2026?

Yes, final year/semester students can apply for SBI PO 2026 provisionally.

Conditions:

  • Must have proof of graduation before the interview
  • Must clear SBI PO Prelims + Mains first
  • A degree certificate is required at the document verification stage

SBI PO Number of Attempts 2026

General/EWS Category Candidates: Generally, candidates belonging to the general category are allowed 4 attempts to appear for the SBI PO examination.

  1. Reserved Category Candidates: Candidates belonging to the Reserved categories, including SC (Scheduled Castes), ST (Scheduled Tribes), have no attempt limit.
  2. OBC/PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) Candidates: PwBD candidates have 7 attempts and age relaxation as per the government rules and provisions stated in the notification PDF.
  3. Validity of Attempts: The number of attempts is typically measured from the year that the candidate first takes the SBI PO exam. Should a candidate surpass the permitted number of attempts, they might lose eligibility to apply for the exam in the following years.

SBI PO Nationality Criteria 2026

To be eligible for the SBI PO Exam 2026, candidates need to be Indian citizens. This means that only people who are citizens of India can apply for the exam.
  • A subject of Bhutan/Nepal;
  • Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1st January 1962, intending to permanently settle down;
  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) who have migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, or East African countries of Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Malawi, with the intention of permanent settlement in India;
  • Candidates belonging to categories 2, 3, and 4 must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Govt of India in their favor.

SBI PO Selection Process 2026

For those who understand the SBI PO Eligibility Criteria 2026, it's important to know how the selection process works. It has three stages:

  1. Preliminary Exam: This is a computer-based test with multiple-choice questions. If you pass this, you move on to the next stage.
  2. Mains Exam: This has two parts - objective and descriptive. The objective part has different types of questions, and the descriptive part includes questions about writing a letter and an essay.
  3. Interview Round: If you qualify in the mains, you'll be called for an interview.

  • Graduation with any percentage is allowed
  • CGPA must be converted into a percentage
  • Fraction rule:
    • 59.99% = below 60%
    • 54.99% = below 55%

SBI PO Reservation for PwBD Candidates

People with certain disabilities will have a special reservation of 4%. These disabilities include:
  • Locomotor Disabilities: Affecting one arm, one leg, or both legs without affecting arms.
  • Leprosy-cured person, Cerebral palsy, Dwarfism, Muscular Dystrophy, Acid attack victims.
  • Visual Impairment: Including blindness and low vision.
  • Hearing Impaired: Including being deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Specific Learning Disability, Mental Illness.
  • Multiple Disabilities: A combination of the disabilities mentioned above. 4% horizontal reservation has been provided to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) as per section 34 of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016”. The post is identified as suitable for persons with the undernoted categories of disabilities as defined in the Schedule of RPWD Act 2016 and notified by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) from time to time

  • A. Visual Impairment (VI):
    Only those Visually Impaired (VI) persons who suffer from any one of the following conditions, after the best correction, are eligible to apply.
  • a. Blindness:
  • i. Total absence of sight; OR ii. Visual acuity less than 3/60 or less than 10/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with the best possible correction; OR
  • iii. Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of less than 10 degrees. OR
  • b. Low Vision:
  • i. Visual acuity not exceeding 6/18 or less than 20/60 up to 3/60 or up to 10/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with the best possible corrections; OR
  • ii. Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of less than 40 degrees up to 10 degrees
  • B. Hearing Impaired (HI):
    Only those Hearing Impaired (HI) persons who suffer from any one of the following conditions, afterthe best correction, are eligible to apply.
  • a. Deaf means a person having 70 DB hearing loss in speech frequencies in both ears.
  • b. Hard of Hearing means a person having 60 DB to 70 DB hearing loss in speech frequencies in both ears.

  • C. Locomotor Disabilities (LD):

Only those persons are eligible to apply under the Locomotor Disability (LD) category who are unable to perform distinctive activities related to the movement of self or objects due to impairment of the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, or both. This includes:

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Leprosy-cured persons

  • Dwarfism

  • Muscular Dystrophy

  • Acid Attack Victims

  • Spinal Deformity (SD)

  • Spinal Injury (SI)

Note: Candidates with Spinal Deformity (SD) and Spinal Injury (SI) must not have any associated neurological or limb dysfunction

SBI PO Work Experience Requirement

The official notice for the SBI PO Exam 2026 states that candidates don't need any specific experience. Even if you're a recent graduate, you can apply for the SBI PO exam. Anyone with a graduation degree from a recognized university can be eligible for this exam.
