Instances Of Unequal Division Of Power
- Residuary powers lies with the Union government.
- Being a holding together type of federation there is unequal division of power between the central and the state government.

Some states enjoy more powers and special status for example
- Jammu Kashmir has its own constitution (Article 370).
- Many provision of the constitution do not apply to this state without the approval of the state assembly.
- Indians who are not the permanent residents of this state cannot buy fixed assets in this state.
- There are some units of Indian Union which enjoys very little power.
- These are the areas which are too small to become an independent state. These are called Union Territories
- Some of the Union Territories are Chandigarh, capital city of Delhi, Lakshdeep.
These areas are ruled by the central government.
