JMI PhD Eligibility Criteria 2024
The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is a renowned institution that offers various academic programs, including a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree across multiple disciplines. As part of the application process for the Ph.D. program for the year 2024, candidates must adhere to specific eligibility criteria. To be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program, candidates must meet the following criteria:- Educational Qualifications : A Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent Grade "B" in the UGC seven-point scale (or equivalent CGPA where applicable). Candidates must possess a degree in the relevant or allied subject, recognized as equivalent by the University, or an equivalent degree from a recognized foreign university/institute.
- Relaxation Criteria : A relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) or an equivalent relaxation in grade/CGPA, is available for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (N.C.L.), differently-abled individuals, or those who obtained their Master’s degree before September 19, 1991. Candidates with an M.Phil. degree, obtained with 55% marks from a recognized Indian University/Institute of at least two semesters, in the same subject as per UGC norms, are also eligible for direct admission to the Ph.D. program.
- Final Semester Candidates: Candidates who are in the final semester of their Master’s degree program can apply for Ph.D. admission. Such candidates must complete their Master’s program with the required qualifying marks and submit all relevant documents to the concerned office by the stipulated date.
- Part-Time Ph.D. ProgramL Applicants for the part-time Ph.D. program must obtain a "No Objection Certificate" (NOC) as spe cified in the Ph.D. Ordinances.
- Exemption for Fellowship Holders : Candidates holding DST-INSPIRE or any equivalent fellowship who haven't qualified a national-level test are required to qualify either a national level eligibility test or the university entrance test to be eligible for Ph.D. admission.
- Qualified Candidates : Candidates who have successfully cleared the UGC/CSIR-JRF/NET/AYUSH-NET/JRF examination, or any equivalent examination conducted by recognized governmental departments/institutions/ agencies, are eligible for consideration. Such qualifications will be verified by the concerned Department Research Committee (DRC) or the Committee for Research and Consultancy (CRC).
- Teacher Fellowship Holders : Candidates holding teacher fellowships, such as QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) awardees, must acquire a "No Objection Certificate" (NOC) from the competent authority and present a sanctioned study leave letter as per Government of India rules or other relevant regulatory bodies when applying for admission.
- Interview Qualification : Candidates must obtain a minimum score of 40% in the interview to qualify for admission.
