• The BSF was created by amalgamating 25 border battalions from various state police organizations, along with five of the twelve India Reserve Battalions.
• Initially formed under the CRPF Act, the Border Security Force Act of 1968, along with BSF Rules, was later enacted by Parliament.
• The specific mission outlined for the BSF was to protect the India-Pakistan border, coinciding with the conclusion of hostilities with Pakistan.
