NID Counselling 2027

NID Counselling 2027 is an important stage for candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) programme at the National Institute of Design. Candidates who qualify the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and become eligible for final admission must complete the prescribed admission and seat allotment formalities.

The NID admission process considers the candidate's merit, category, campus preference and availability of seats. Therefore, qualifying the entrance examination alone does not guarantee admission to a preferred campus or discipline.

NID Counselling Process 2027

The NID Counselling Process 2027 will take place after the DAT Mains stage and declaration of the final merit list. Based on the current handbook, candidates can expect the following sequence:

  1. Appear for DAT Prelims: Eligible candidates appear for the first stage of the Design Aptitude Test.

  2. DAT Prelims result: Candidates are shortlisted for DAT Mains based on their Prelims performance and applicable tie-break rules.

  3. Appear for DAT Mains: Shortlisted candidates must appear for both the Studio Sensitivity Test and In-Person Sensitivity Test.

  4. DAT Mains result and merit list: NID will prepare the applicable category-wise final merit lists based on DAT Mains performance.

  5. Submit admission application: Eligible candidates must submit the separate online admission application after the DAT Mains result.

  6. Seat allotment: Seats will be allotted according to merit, category, preference and availability of seats.

  7. Pay fees: Candidates receiving an allotment must pay the prescribed fees within the specified timeline.

  8. Document verification: Candidates must complete physical verification and submit the required original documents.

  9. Complete admission: Candidates must fulfil all remaining admission requirements within the prescribed deadline.

The admission application after DAT Mains is particularly important because NID states that only candidates who submit this application will be considered for seat allotment.

NID Counselling 2027 Registration

Eligible candidates must complete the NID Counselling 2027 Registration process as specified by NID. Candidates should use their registered login credentials and carefully verify all details before submitting the application.

The registration process is expected to involve:

  • Visiting the official NID admission portal

  • Logging in with the required credentials

  • Checking personal and eligibility details

  • Confirming participation in the admission process

  • Providing campus preferences, wherever applicable

  • Submitting the required information within the deadline

Candidates should keep their login details and admission-related documents ready to avoid delays during registration.

NID Counselling 2027 Seat Allotment

The NID Seat Allotment 2027 will depend on the candidate's merit, category, campus preference and availability of seats.

The major factors considered during seat allocation include:

  • Final merit rank

  • Category of the candidate

  • Campus preference

  • Availability of seats

A candidate's position in the merit list does not automatically guarantee admission to a particular campus or discipline. Seat allocation also depends on the availability of seats and the preferences submitted by eligible candidates.

NID Seat Matrix 2027

The NID Seat Matrix 2027 will provide details of the available seats across the applicable campuses and B.Des. disciplines.

The final seat matrix can vary from one admission cycle to another. Therefore, candidates should refer to the 2027 admission information for the confirmed number of seats, disciplines and category-wise allocation.

Documents Required for NID Counselling 2027

Shortlisted candidates must bring both the original documents and a copy of each document for in-person admission counselling. The following documents are required:

  1. Valid Photo ID: Aadhaar Card, Election ID, Driving Licence, PAN Card or Passport.

  2. Birth Certificate or School Leaving Certificate showing the date of birth.

  3. Class 10 Mark Sheet.

  4. Class 12 Mark Sheet: If the hard copy is unavailable, the digital copy duly attested by the School Principal is required.

  5. Self-Undertaking: Required for candidates whose Class 12 result has not yet been declared.

  6. Class 12 First-Attempt Certificate: Applicable to candidates currently appearing in Class 12 during the 2026-27 academic year.

  7. GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST Certificate: Wherever applicable.

  8. Disability Certificate and/or UDID Card: Wherever applicable.

  9. Valid Passport and OCI/PIO Card: Wherever applicable for candidates under the Overseas category.

  10. Third Gender Certificate/Identity Card: Required where applicable for candidates seeking application fee relaxation under the Third Gender category.

NID Counselling 2027 Fee

Candidates should distinguish between the DAT application fee and the fee payable during the final admission process.

For the 2027-28 admission cycle, the DAT application fee for Indian nationals is:

Category

Application Fee

General, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL

Rs. 3,000

Female Candidates (except SC, ST & PwD)

Rs. 2,000

SC & ST

Third Gender

Overseas (Supernumerary)

The application fee is applicable for all NIDs, is non-refundable and non-transferable, and does not include applicable bank or convenience charges.

NID Counselling 2027 Reservation Criteria

For Indian nationals, NID classifies seats under Open, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD categories. Overseas candidates applying under the Overseas category are outside the reservation provisions applicable to GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD categories.

The admission process includes categories such as:

  • GEN-EWS: 10%

  • OBC-NCL: 27%

  • SC: 15%

  • ST: 7.5%

  • PwD: 5% of the total seats across Open, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories

Candidates claiming reservation must have valid certificates in the prescribed format and meet the applicable eligibility conditions.

NID Counselling 2027 Tie-Breaking Rules

NID has stated that the tie-break policy for awarding ranks will be announced later.

If two or more candidates obtain the same total marks, their ranks will be determined according to the tie-break policy notified by NID. Therefore, candidates should not rely on a specific tie-breaking sequence from a previous admission cycle.

What Happens After NID Seat Allotment?

After a seat is allotted, candidates must complete the required admission formalities within the prescribed timeline.

Depending on the mode of allotment, candidates may need to:

  • Confirm the allotted seat.

  • Pay the prescribed fees.

  • Submit the required documents.

  • Complete physical document verification.

  • Report in person if NID conducts the allotment/admission process offline.

  • Complete any remaining admission requirements.

If the seat allotment is conducted in person, failure to report with the required documents can result in forfeiture of the allotted seat. The seat may then be offered to the next eligible candidate in the order of merit in the respective category.

NID Counselling 2027 is an important stage for candidates seeking B.Des. admission after qualifying the required entrance examination stages. Seat allotment depends on merit, campus preference, category and available seats.

Candidates should follow the latest official admission updates and keep their documents ready to complete the process within the prescribed deadlines.
