NID Exam 2025 Eligibility: Every year the National Institute of Design conducts an entrance exam called the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for admission into its design courses such as B.Des and M.Des. It is one of the most anticipated exams with over 20,000 students appearing for it each year. Before applying for it, candidates must know the NID Exam 2025 eligibility criteria to have a better understanding of the exam.

NID DAT 2025 is scheduled for 5th January 2025 and the registration process is currently open. The last date for NID DAT 2025 registration is 3rd December 2025. The application is for admission to B.Des and M.Des courses offered by participating colleges.

To be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program offered by the NIDs, candidates must go through the upper age limit criteria for all categories as mentioned under the NID Eligibility Criteria 2025.

NID Eligibility Criteria 2025 Qualifying Exams for B.Des Admission

To be eligible for the NID DAT 2025 entrance exam, candidates must have passed class 12th or equivalent examination from AISSCE / IB / ICSE or any recognized board in any stream namely science, arts, humanities, commerce, etc during the academic year 2024. Candidates appearing for the class 12th exams in the academic year 2024-25 may also appear. Some of the exams that are considered identical to class 12th and are accepted under NID Eligibility Criteria 2025 are as follows.
  • A central or state board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities conducts the final exam of class 12th.
  • A board of university recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) conducts a 2-year Pre-University or intermediate examination.
  • The Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy conducts the final examination of the 2-year course.
  • 3-year full-time
  • Diploma after Class 10th offered by the Board of Technical Education of any state in India or Union Territories approved by AICTE as mentioned on http://www.aicte-india.org/statisticbote.php.
  • HSC vocational examination.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in Sri Lanka, London, or Cambridge.
  • International Baccalaureate diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva, or a High School Certificate Examination from Cambridge University.
  • The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts the Senior secondary school examination with a minimum of 5 subjects.
  • Candidates who have completed their class 12th final examination (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India.
  • Any board, university, or  public school examination completed in India or from any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

NID Exam 2025 Eligibility Criteria B.Des for Overseas Category

Candidates holding citizenship of any country other than India (foreign citizens) can also apply for the NID DAT 2025 entrance exam under the overseas (Supernumerary) category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria. Overseas candidates seeking admission to B.Des must be born on or after 1st July 2004 and must have passed class 12th or equivalent examination from IB/CBSE/ISCE board. Some important points regarding the overseas candidates are as follows.
  • Candidates applying under the Overseas (supernumerary) category must fall outside the seats reserved for the SC, ST, OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, and PwD categories. Such candidates cannot avail the facility of scribe, age-relaxation, etc provided to these categories.
  • Overseas candidates must pay the NID application fee according to the Overseas (supernumerary) category.
  • Such candidates must have a valid passport. While filling out the application form, candidates must ensure that their passport is current and not expired.
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) holding an Indian passport are not eligible to apply under the Overseas (supernumerary) category and must apply as Indian nationals.
  • Candidates must obtain a student visa for the entire programme at NID before the commencement of the course.

The Master of Design M.Des is a 2.5-year Master's program at the National Institute of Design (NID). Candidates seeking admission to M.Des through NID DAT entrance exam must fulfill age and educational criteria.   • Alternatively, candidates with a full-time diploma of at least four years in Design, Fine Arts, Applied Arts, or Architecture after 12th standard are also eligible.
  • General Category candidates must be born on or after July 1, 1993, while reserved category candidates have age relaxation.
