NIFT Personal Interview Dates & Schedules 2026

NIFT Personal Interview (PI) 2026 for postgraduate (PG) programmes such as M.Des, M.F.M., and M.F.Tech was conducted from April 6 to April 11, 2026. Candidates shortlisted after the Stage-1 entrance examination appeared for the interview, where their communication skills, subject knowledge, creativity, and aptitude for the selected programme were assessed.

For undergraduate (UG) programmes, including B.Des, no Personal Interview was conducted. Instead, shortlisted candidates appeared for the Situation Test on April 26, 2026, which served as the Stage-2 admission process.

• Don’t Mince Your Words: In case you don’t know the answers to certain questions, accept that politely in front of the interviewers. Do not mince your answers to show that you know everything. Say, “I am sorry, I am not aware of this”, instead.

Tips to face the NIFT Personal Interview

NIFT Personal Interview is not as much focused on your knowledge as it is on your attitude. This phase tests your passion for design, clarity of career goals, and suitability for the fashion and design industry. Keep these tips in mind whilst preparing for the NIFT Personal Interview. 

• If you are not comfortable with English, politely ask the interviewer to ask the questions in Hindi and then give answers. 
• Be truthful to your goals and do not hesitate to express your opinions. 
• Believe in yourself that you are worthy of the seat in the particular institute. 
• If you have any doubts related to any question, do not hesitate to ask the panelists about it. Ask for any help if needed. 
• Try not to take a detour while answering the questions. Limit your answers to only what you have been asked. You should not make yourself look like you are an expert in everything.
• If you have any preference when it comes to the course/branch, feel free to express it to the panel.

This is the most common type of question asked in every interview. Apart from your name and NIFT scores, the interview panel does not know anything about you. Therefore, tell about your background, education, interests, and achievements while answering this question. You should answer by giving a concise overview of your personal and academic journey, highlighting your strengths, hobbies, and any relevant experiences. 

2. Why do you think you deserve a seat in NIFT?

Here, the interviewers want to know your passion for fashion, your understanding of the institute’s legacy, and how your aspirations align with the course. Answer by discussing your interest and skills in fashion, supporting your claims with examples from your portfolio or experiences, and explaining how NIFT fits into your career goals. 

3. What are your career goals? 

This question assesses your long-term vision and commitment to the field. Share your aspirations, steps you are taking to achieve them, and how you plan to contribute to the industry and NIFT’s heritage. 

4. Who is your favorite fashion designer or brand, and why?

The panel wants to understand your inspirations and taste in fashion. Be honest about your choice, and explain what you admire about the designer or brand, such as their style, innovation, or contribution to the industry. 

5. What do you know about fast fashion, and what is your take on it?

The panel is testing your awareness of industry trends and your ability to form balanced opinions. Discuss the concept of fast fashion, its impact on the environment and society, and share your views thoughtfully without being too controversial. 

6. Talk about the outfit you are wearing today and why you chose it.

This question assesses your sense of style, awareness of fashion elements, and ability to articulate your choices. Explain the significance of each piece, the color combinations, patterns, or cultural elements, and how the outfit suits the occasion.
