The Supreme Court has decided not to get involved in a request to delay the upcoming CA exams due to the Lok Sabha elections happening at the same time. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, stated that the exam dates don't clash with the election schedule, so there's no need for the court to step in.
Chief Justice Chandrachud pointed out that there are 591 exam centers, none of which have CA exams on polling dates. The Supreme Court declined a request to delay the CA exams by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) due to the Lok Sabha elections. The Court pointed out that the exams are set for May 8th and 14th, while the elections are on May 7th and 13th, 2024. Postponing the exams just one day after polling would be tough on many students, according to the Court. Advocates for the petitioners argued that students, especially those from remote areas, would struggle to reach exam centers after voting. The Court noted that postponing the exams would greatly inconvenience over 4.36 lakh students across 591 exam centers nationwide. Some students who are studying to become Chartered Accountants (CA) asked the court to change the dates of their exams. They wanted to vote in elections without missing their CA exams. But the court said it's not their job to decide this. They think it's up to the government to make these kinds of decisions. When the court listened to this, the people representing the organization that conducts these exams (ICAI) said they've been getting ready for the exams for a long time. They said there are already a lot of students signed up to take the exams, around 4,36,000, and they've arranged exam centers in 390 places across the country. They also said they've tried to help students who were worried about their exam centers being on the same day as election days. This decision is important because CA exams are going to start on May 2nd and it affects a lot of students all over the country. CA Exam Dates 2024
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced new dates for the CA May 2024 exams. Candidates preparing for the Chartered Accountant Examination in May 2024 can find these dates on ICAI's official website, icai.org. The exam dates for May 2024 have been changed due to the 18th Lok Sabha elections happening across India. For the CA Intermediate exams, Group I will take place on May 3, 5, and 9, 2024, while Group II is scheduled for May 11, 15, and 17, 2024. The Group I CA Final exams will be held on May 2, 4, and 8, 2024, with Group II exams on May 10, 14, and 16, 2024.
