JEE Advanced 2025 Admission Criteria For IIT: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are among the most prestigious institutions for engineering in India. JEE Advanced 2025 is the upcoming entrance exam for admission to undergraduate courses like BTech, integrated MTech, and dual degree programs at 23 IITs across the country. After a long wait, IIT Kanpur, the organizing body, has finally announced the JEE Advanced 2025 Admission Criteria for IIT.

As per the latest IIT admission criteria, students need to have appeared in the Class 12 board exams with a minimum of five subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language subject, and one additional subject. The eligibility for IIT admission will be based on the aggregate marks in these five subjects. In the forthcoming year, nearly 17,000 seats will be available across the IITs for eligible aspirants.

IIT Kanpur has released the official JEE Advanced 2025 information brochure , which includes detailed information about the exam, admission criteria, and eligibility requirements. As per the latest update, the JEE Advanced 2025 admission criteria for IIT will follow the below guidelines:

• For General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories, applicants must have scored a minimum of 75% in the Class 12 board exams.
• For SC and ST categories, the required percentage is 65%.
• Additionally, students must be in the top 20 percentile of their respective Class 12 boards and categories.

JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Requirements Overview

To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025, students must meet several important requirements, which apply to both Indian nationals and OCI/PIO aspirants. Here’s an overview of the eligibility requirements:

• Performance in JEE (Main) 2025 : Students must be among the top 2,50,000 successful applicants in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2025 . This includes applicants from various categories like General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and EWS. There is a specific percentage allocation for each category, with 5% horizontal reservation for PwD applicants within each category.
• Age Limit : To be eligible, applicants must have been born on or after October 1, 2000. SC, ST, and PwD applicants have an age relaxation of five years, meaning they must have been born on or after October 1, 1995.
• Number of Attempts : An applicant can appear for JEE Advanced a maximum of two times, and these attempts must be in two consecutive years.
• Class 12 (or Equivalent) Examination : Applicants must have appeared for the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2024 or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. Those who appeared in 2023 or earlier are not eligible, regardless of the subjects taken.
• Foreign National Aspirants: Foreign nationals are not required to appear for JEE Main 2025. They can directly register for JEE Advanced 2025 , provided they meet the other eligibility criteria. These candidates are considered separately from the 2,50,000 Indian applicants who qualify for JEE Advanced. Foreign national applicants are eligible for supernumerary seats, which make up 10% of the total seats in each course. These seats are not subject to reservation categories such as GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, or PwD. There are no separate seats for female candidates in the foreign national supernumerary category.

Revised IIT Admission Criteria Through JEE Advanced

In addition to the previously mentioned eligibility criteria, there are some important updates related to earlier admission at IITs. Applicants who have been previously admitted to an IIT under any academic program listed in the JoSAA Business Rules of 2024 are not eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025 .

This applies even if an applicant did not continue the program or withdrew after reporting to the IIT. If an applicant's admission was cancelled after joining an IIT, they are also ineligible. However, applicants who were admitted to a preparatory course in 2024 or those who were allocated a seat in IITs but did not report or withdrew before the final round of seat allotment are eligible.

JEE Advanced 2025 Online Registration Will Start On April 23rd

The registration for JEE Advanced 2025 will begin on April 23, 2025, and will remain open until May 2, 2025. Aspirants interested in appearing for the exam should ensure they complete their online application within this period. Moreover, the JEE Advanced 2025 exam will be held on May 18, 2025, in two sessions.

After the exam, the recorded response sheets will be released on May 22, 2025. Provisional answer keys will be made available on May 26, 2025, and applicants will have the opportunity to raise objections on these answer keys from May 26 to May 27, 2025. Finally, the official answer keys and the exam results will be announced on June 2, 2025. It is important to note that these dates are tentative, and IIT Kanpur reserves the right to update them anytime.
