The SSC CGL JSO Selection Process involves multiple stages. This selection process assesses candidates' knowledge, reasoning ability, and proficiency in statistics for JSO posts.
  1. Tier-I (Preliminary Exam): This is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of multiple-choice questions in General Intelligence, Reasoning, General Awareness, and Quantitative Aptitude. The performance in Tier I determines eligibility for Tier II.
  2. Tier-II (Mains Exam): This stage consists of Paper I (compulsory for all) and Paper II (for Junior Statistical Officer applicants). Paper II focuses on statistics and includes questions on Data Interpretation, Probability, and Mathematical Statistics.
  3. Document Verification: Successful candidates undergo document verification before final selection.

SSC CGL JSO Selection Process - Tier I

The first stage of the selection process is the Tier 1 exam, which is a computer-based test that assesses candidates in four important areas, as given in the table. Tier 1 exam in the SSC CGL JSO Selection Process is a qualifying in nature.

SSC CGL JSO Selection Process - Tier II

Tier II will consist of Paper I and Paper II, which will be conducted on separate shifts or days.
  • Paper I is mandatory for all candidates applying for SSC CGL posts.
  • Paper II will only be for candidates who apply for the Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) position in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, provided they are shortlisted in Tier I for these posts.

Document Verification in SSC CGL JSO Selection Process

Once candidates successfully clear all the stages of the selection process, they will be shortlisted based on their performance in Tier 2. The final merit list will be created, and candidates who rank high enough will be selected for the Junior Statistical Officer role. Candidates who are shortlisted will be called for Document Verification. During this stage, candidates must present original documents to verify their eligibility. These documents include:
  • Educational Certificates
  • Age Proof
  • Caste/Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Other relevant documents as per the official notification

Physical Fitness in SSC CGL JSO Selection Process

The SSC CGL Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) selection process does not include any physical fitness or physical test requirements. Unlike posts in forces or field jobs, the JSO is a desk-based analytical role under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. General medical fitness is preferred for this post. 

  • No physical fitness test or PET/PST is required for the JSO post.
  • The selection is purely based on computer-based examinations – Tier 1 and Tier 2 (including Paper-II on Statistics).
  • Only document verification is conducted after the written exams to verify educational qualifications, age, category, etc.
