How is ABPM Performed?

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring is a small digital blood pressure device that is connected to a belt in your waist and then it is attached to a cuff on your upper arm.

With this, the machine will record your blood pressure readings at regular intervals during the day and night.

Generally speaking, it records your blood pressure for around 15-30 minutes during the daytime and 30-60 minutes while sleeping. However, the timing may differ as per the different clinics.

After the monitoring period is over, you can remove the machine and cuff and return them to your doctor. As a result of this, the machines contain all your blood pressure readings. Then, the doctors will check the readings and will prepare the reports accordingly.

How to Wear ABPM Properly?

To allow the device to function properly, you should ensure that the tube to the machine is not bent at all. Along with this, you should do the following things when the device is about to record your reading:

  • Sit down properly.
  • Balance the cuff at the equal level as your heart
  • Make sure your arm is in a still position
  • Do not speak or cross your legs during the monitoring
  • Make sure that you don't drive during the recording duration.
