What is AIMA?

The All India Management Association (AIMA) is the country's highest management organization. AIMA was set up to advance the cause of the management profession in India, a non-profit, non-lobbying organization. It works closely with industry, government, academia, and students. 

AIMA works through its 67 local management associations, with a membership base of more than 38,000 individuals and around 6,000 corporations and institutions. AIMA was set up in 1957. Moreover, 600 business schools in India employ the Management Aptitude Test (MAT), administered by AIMA. It also participates in national forums and organizations and bestows annual awards.

History of AIMA

AIMA began in 1957, and since then, it has made significant advancements in the nation's management competence. The AIMA provides various services, such as testing, distance learning, skill development and training, research, publications, executive education, and management development programmes.

AIMA has changed over the past 60 years and adapted to the expanding demands of the management community of today. Hence, AIMA provides cutting-edge business solutions for organizations and institutions to its flagship Post Graduate Diploma in Management. These initiatives and programmes are topical and industry-focused. Moreover, it enables management professionals and students to stay up-to-date with current events.

Activities of AIMA

AIMA, which invented distance learning, has a history of pioneering in all fields, including the digital one. It was one of the first organizations to bring its service offerings online. Additionally, one of the first to offer Internet-based remote proctored tests nationally. 

AIMA swiftly acquired digital competence. Now, AIMA can provide management programmes and business solutions in physical, virtual, and hybrid modes, depending on the sector's demands. In addition, AIMA engages in international collaborations with professional organizations and institutions. AIMA also provides Indian managers with the best management practices and methodologies.

Eligibility criteria for AIMA

AIMA membership creates a national managerial culture. It also aids in the promotion of professional management practices in all fields. AIMA offers a venue for exchanging management knowledge, insight, and experience. Membership in AIMA supports the interests of the management fraternity and acknowledges celebrations. Likewise, AIMA celebrates managerial excellence at all levels of the organization.

Honorary Fellow:

The Council will award these honorary fellowships to the most deserving managers in various fields in India and abroad without requiring them to pay a subscription fee. AIMA Council must vote with at least a two-thirds majority to bestow this membership.

Honorary Life Fellow:

On leaving office, the President of AIMA will receive the honorary title of "Honorary Life Fellow" of AIMA. This title is in appreciation of their remarkable services.

Member Grade:

This grade applies to management professionals or their equivalents.  For this, candidates should meet the following requirements:

The applicant must be at least 21 years old.

• It must be one of the subsequent:
• Executive, public administrator, member of the armed forces, or academic in a management-related field.
• Professionals in the technical or legal fields, Chartered Accountants, Cost and Works Accountants, and Company Secretaries with Indian or similar foreign institution qualifications.
• A management degree, a diploma from AIMA, a reputable university, or a general management course from a reputable organization.

Student Grade:

Students taking a professional course in management from accredited or reputable schools are eligible for this grade. This membership may be raised to a higher grade. However, candidates should meet the following requirements:

• Should have graduated from an accredited university in any discipline
• Any functional management programme offered by a reputable university or institution.
• Furthermore, these qualifying requirements outline the general standards for admitting members to different categories. The Fellowship and Membership Committees and the AIMA Council aim to satisfy themselves regarding the fitness of the candidates thoroughly. According to the professional standards of AIMA, they are in charge of conducting the actual review.

New member:

• Complete the relevant application form in duplicate and send it to the Membership Division. It includes a demand draft for the admission fee and annual or life membership subscription. Also, the application gets evaluated before being examined by the Council. The candidate gets information about their admittance, the membership grade, and the entrance date.
• New members are accepted according to the financial year. A full year's subscription is required for everyone admitted between April and September. Every new admission is subject to a half-year subscription fee between October and March. Finally, the entrance charge must be paid in full in both situations.
