  • In 1984, it made its debut as System Unit 5170.
  • The entry-level AT computer has 256 KB of RAM and a 1.2 MB disc drive. Moreover, 512 KB of Memory and a 20 MB hard drive were available as options for the AT.
  • Currently, any computer with a 16-, 32-, or 64-bit system is referred to as an AT-class system. PC/XT-class platforms were the term used to describe earlier 8-bit computers.
  • All of the current generations of computers are categorised as AT-class computers.
  • The moniker "Advanced Technology" was selected because the AT made a number of technologies accessible that were previously exclusive to personal computers.
  • Eventually, IBM unveiled an 8 MHz AT variant.

  • The 24-bit address bus limits memory to a maximum of 16 MB.

  • The disk-based BIOS configuration software took the place of the DIP switches on PCs and PC XTs.
  • Today's 20 MB hard disc devices exist despite the fact that the initial drives created and manufactured by Computer Memory were incredibly unstable.
  • ATs may have CGA, MDA, EGA, or PGA video cards.
  • In order to maintain the original AT features, the 8250 UART on the XT was improved and upgraded to the 16450, and PC DOS 3.0, which featured the first kernel maintenance for networking, was released.
