The National Testing Agency conducts the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), a national-level entrance examination. It conducts 

this test annually across India to assess your aptitude skills in various aspects of management education, including quantitative techniques, logical reasoning, language comprehension, and general awareness.

As a computer-based test, CMAT takes place over three hours and consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, each worth four marks. Moreover, you earn four marks for every correct answer and lose one mark for every incorrect answer.

One of the key advantages of CMAT is that many colleges accept it across India. The colleges consider CMAT scores for their admission process. Moreover, CMAT scores are valid for one year so candidates can apply to any participating institute within this time frame.

CMAT Exam Difficulty: How Difficult is the CMAT?

CMAT includes a moderate level of difficult questions. However, the question paper includes 20 questions in each of the five sections. A good attempt would be around 60-70 questions. 

The English and LR sections are considered easy. However, GK can be challenging. The quantitative section contains moderately difficult questions, but the new section on Innovation. 

It is, however, easier than the other exams like IIFT, NMAT, CAT, etc.

CMAT is a national-level entrance exam, meaning B-schools across India recognize scores. 

This provides an excellent opportunity for candidates to secure admission to their preferred institute, regardless of location.

The CMAT exam is a moderately difficult exam based on a well-structured syllabus. It is easier to crack.

Eligibility Criteria: How to Be Eligible for the CMAT Exam?

In addition, to be eligible for the CMAT, an aspirant must hold a graduation degree or equivalent from a recognized university. 

Final-year graduates are also eligible to apply for the CMAT Exam. But, they need to have a certificate at the time of admission.

Additionally, there is no minimum score requirement for graduation for the CMAT exam. A minimum of 50 percentile is enough to be eligible for the exam. 

However, the exact eligibility criteria can vary from year to year, so it's best to check the official website or prospectus of the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the most up-to-date information.

CMAT Now: What's Changed in CMAT?

  1. CMAT now contains five sections. It added one more section, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, recently. It covers topics such as start-ups and entrepreneurship.
  2. Additionally, there is no more time limit given for each section. Hence, You can give as much time as you need to a particular section.
  1. However, the number of questions in each section is 20. Each section is worth 80 marks.
  2. Furthermore, the number of mandatory sections in the CMAT has increased to five.
  3. In addition, scores of Innovation & Entrepreneurship are also considered in the percentile evaluation.

CMAT Syllabus: How Should I Prepare for the CMAT?

  1. Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation: It covers topics such as algebra, time-speed-distance, aligation and mixtures, geometry, graphs, quadratic equations, and linear equations.
  2. Logical Reasoning: Analytical reasoning, linear arrangements, number series, matrix arrangements, and other subjects are covered. 
  3. Language Comprehension: It contains topics such as reading comprehension, grammar, English usage errors, jumbled words, etc. 
  4. General Awareness: It includes topics such as Economy, Business, world, politics, culture, and society.
  5. Innovation & Entrepreneurship: It includes questions about Innovation, entrepreneurship, and start-up business.

However, the syllabus keeps on changing every year. Keep checking the official website for the latest updates on the syllabus or pattern changes, if any.

CMAT Preparation: Tips and Strategies

Know the exam pattern

The most important step in preparation is to know the exam pattern and syllabus.

Practice mock tests and previous year's papers: Additionally, practice the previous year's papers. It helps you to identify your weak areas, and you can also work on them.

Time management skills

CMAT is a time-bounded exam, and time management is crucial to score well. Practice mock tests within the time limit to improve your speed and accuracy.

Brush up your basics: Knowing how to solve the most challenging questions is good. But, working on basic concepts and practising solving problems is essential.

Improve your English language skills

The Language Comprehension section of CMAT tests your reading and comprehension skills in English.

Which exam is best for MBA entrance?

Who is eligible for the CMAT exam?

What is the fee for the CMAT exam?

A CMAT application fee cost around Rs.2000 for the General category. It is Rs.1000 for other cast. However, for women candidates, it is Rs.1000 only.

Does CMAT have a negative marking?

Yes, there is a negative marking in CMAT. For each wrong answer, one mark will be deducted. However, there will be a deduction if you have answered it.
