The full form of DeitY in information technology is the Department of Electronics and Information Technology. It is the organization that works for the growth and development of the electronics and information technology industries in the country. It is a distinct ministry within the Indian Central Government. The current minister of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology is Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad.

What is DeitY?

The Department of Electronic and Information Technology ( DeitY), is an Indian government agency. DeitY is appointed to promote the growth and development of the electronics and IT industries. 

The duties of DeitY include making policies and executing plans for the production of electronics and IT, software development, and IT services. DeitY was established to increase the nation's competitiveness on the world market and make India a centre for electronics and IT.

To achieve this goal, DeitY focuses on supporting the expansion of India's electronics and IT industries. This is done through programmes like the National Policy on Electronics and the Digital India Program.

As revealed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the purpose of this department is to convert India into a developed nation and an empowered society.

Establishment of  DeitY

DeitY was established in 2012, with the goal of creating a favorable environment for the growth of the electronics and IT industries. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology initially included it under its domain. It was also previously known as the Department of Information Technology. It was afterwards renamed the Department of Electronics and information technology. 

Furthermore, with time, the government recognized the importance of these sectors. Thus, it decided to form a separate organization for its development. Later in 2016, it developed as a completely separate ministry from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Objectives of  DeitY

1. E-Governance: It aims to provide best-quality e-infrastructure for the delivery of e-services. Also, it promotes the growth of the IT industry and develops programs to increase access to IT services.

The National Policy of Electronics

The National Policy of Electronics (NPE)  is one of the major initiatives taken by DeitY. It aims to create a suitable environment for the development of the Electronics sector by providing tax incentives, subsidies, and other supports.  Also, it also promotes the domestic electronic manufacturing industry in India. It plays a major role in uplifting the growth of the electronics sector in India and has made the country an electronic manufacturing hub.

Digital India Program

The Digital India Program is an initiative taken by DeitY. To make India digitally empowered. It provides government services electronically, promotes digital literacy, as well as creates a digital infrastructure. The Digital India Program also seeks to improve India's competitiveness in the international market. It aims to enhance the quality of life of the citizens by using technology and offering accessible digital services.
