Pattern of the DSIM RBI Exam

Recruitment for DSIM RBI will occur in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Paper 1; Statistics Objective Questions
  • Phase 2: Papers 2 and 3; Descriptive-type
  • Interview

RBI's DSIM Online exam Paper 1 is an objective kind with questions based on statistics. To complete Paper I, you have 120 minutes total. There are 100 possible marks. If you pass DSIM RBI Phase 1, you will be invited to take Papers 2 and 3 in DSIM RBI Phase 2. The following table provides further details:

RBI Level B DSIM (Department of Statistics and Information Management) Exams for Paper 2 and Paper 3 are given in shifts. You must show up for each and every shift. 

Phase 2

The second paper is a narrative one (on Statistics). You must write your responses on paper after viewing the questions on the computer. There are 100 marks total, and the total time is 180 minutes. The third paper will be an English descriptive essay that must be typed using a keyboard. The following table provides further details:

While answers to Paper 3 must only be written in English, answers to Paper 2 may also be written in Hindi. The last phase of DSIM RBI is an interview. You can choose between an interview in Hindi or English, worth 75 marks.

DSIM RBI Grade B Eligibility Requirements

You must confirm that you are qualified to take the DSIM RBI Test. Your application will be withdrawn if the DSIM (Department of Statistics and Information Management) RBI eligibility requirements are not met. The table below can be used to deduce more information:

  2. Master's Degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years and a one-year post-graduate diploma in Statistics or related subjects from an Institute of repute; OR
  3. M. Stat. Degree from the Indian Statistical Institute with a minimum of 55% in all semesters/years; OR
  4. PGDBA (Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics) is offered jointly by ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur, and IIM Calcutta with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years.
  • Desirable
  1. Candidates with a Doctorate in a subject related to the above will be given preference.
  2. Experience in research or teaching, as well as publication in peer-reviewed journals, will be considered as additional qualifications.
Note: 
  • For SC, ST and PwBD candidates, the minimum marks required in a Master’s Degree is 50% or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/ years.
  • Candidates with M.Phil. and PhD degrees in the specified subjects will be eligible for a 2-year and 4-year age limit relaxation, respectively.
  • Candidates with research/teaching experience at a recognised Indian / Foreign University/Institute will be eligible for a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit. The probationary period will not be considered when calculating experience.

RBI Level B DSIM Job Profile 

DSIM is one of the 23 RBI departments that operate under the following two guiding principles.

  • Assembling, analysing, and distributing macroeconomic and financial statistics focusing on the banking, monetary, corporate, and foreign sectors.
  • By forward-looking surveys, data management, and applied statistical research, providing statistical and analytical support.

You will gather, compile, analyse, and interpret data on the banking, corporate, and external sectors as an RBI Grade B Officer assigned to the DSIM (Department of Statistics and Information Management) division. Also, you will work with models and forecasts for macroeconomic variables including inflation, growth, and others. 

Your analytical investigations as an RBI Grade B Officer in DSIM involve statistical/econometric models in the operational domains of the Reserve Bank's interest. You will also be responsible for improving the database of different economic sectors and developing a methodology for measuring and estimating variables.
