ACC stands for “Associated Cement Companies”. ACC is one of the leading manufacturers of ready-mix concrete and cement in India. The company has an extensive network of over 50000 distributors operating across the country. Its subsidiaries include Concrete Ltd Bulk Cement Corporation, Encore Cements & Additives Pvt. Ltd and Lucky Minmat National Limestone Co Ltd. It is India's only cement company to achieve super brand status. The Tata Group of Companies owns and operates ACC, one of India's oldest and largest cement companies. These companies belonged to Tata, Khataus, Killick Nixon, and F.E. Dinshaw conglomerates. ACC was set up in 1936 by a group of prominent Indian industrialists, including Walchand Hirachand, J.R.D. Tata and K.K. Birla. ACC was one of the first Indian companies to adopt modern cement manufacturing methods and technologies, which contributed significantly to the growth of the Indian cement industry. ACC is now one of India's largest and best-known cement companies, with a nationwide network of plants and factories.- In August 1936, ACC Ltd. was founded by the merger of ten existing cement companies.
- It established India's first entirely indigenous cement plant in Chaibasa, Bihar, in 1944.
- It established a bulk cement depot in Okhla, New Delhi, in 1956.
- It established Thane Central Research Station in 1965.
- It purchased the Cement Marketing Company of India in 1973.
- For the first time in India, it introduced Precalcination technology in 1978.
- It opened its first 1 MTPA plant in Wadi, Karnataka, in 1982. In the same year, it formed a joint venture with the Government of India. It also forms the Bulk Cement Corporation of India.
- The TATA family took part with the company until 1999. In 1999, it sold 7.2% of its ACC stake to Ambuja Cement Holdings Ltd and the remaining stake to Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd.
- IDCOL Cement Ltd became a subsidiary of the company in 2003.
- The Super brands Council of India named it a Consumer Super brand in 2004.
- Damodhar Cement & Slag Ltd, Bargarh Cement Ltd, and Tarmac (India) Ltd merged with the company in 2006, and the company was renamed ACC Ltd on September 1, 2006.
