Full Form of DIKSHA

DIKSHA is an acronym for "Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing." DIKSHA will be in charge of the National Digital Facilities for Teachers. TIC technology enables all teachers nationwide to outfit themselves with cutting-edge digital technology.

The DIKSHA portal will facilitate, accelerate, and amplify solutions for teacher education. It will help teachers learn and train themselves because assessment resources will be available. It will assist teachers in developing training content, creating profiles, in-class resources, and assessment aids. Also, the news and announcements, and connecting with the teacher community.

About DIKSHA

DIKSHA could be a one-of-a-kind effort that leverages existing, vastly efficient, and adaptable digital infrastructures while keeping teaching staff at the centre. It is designed with the entire teacher's life cycle in mind. From the time student teachers enrol in Teacher Education Institutes (TEIS) to the time they retire as educators.

Many teachers in India are developing and implementing unique technology-based solutions in their classrooms. Multiple state governments have also launched digital teacher support programs. This prompted the MHRD and NCTE to coordinate their efforts on a national scale and create DIKSHA.

DIKSHA can be integrated into the state, government, and private sector teacher efforts based on their goals, needs, and capabilities. They plan to use DIKSHA's capabilities to create

  • Resources available in class
  • Assessment aids for teacher training
  • Profile of a teacher
  • Information and announcements

These features emerged from consultations with numerous state governments. Also, non-governmental organisations and more than 30 public and private organisations contribute to DIKSHA.

History of DIKSHA

Almost all states, union territories, and central autonomous bodies/boards have adopted DIKSHA, launched in 2017 by the Honourable Vice President of India.

DIKSHA was founded on the Approach and Method Paper for the National Teacher Platform, released in September 2017 by the then-Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri Prakash Javdekar. DIKSHA is available to students and teachers throughout the country and currently supports 36 Indian languages.

Each state/UT uses the DIKSHA platform uniquely, as it can use its diverse capabilities and solutions to design and run programmes for teachers, learners, and administrators.

The Scope of DIKSHA

DIKSHA is designed for teachers at all levels of schooling, including kindergarten, elementary, high school, junior high, and senior secondary. The DIKSHA NTP is open to all institutions, individuals, and groups. The DIKSHA app can also be downloaded and used on mobile phones from the Google Play Store.

  • Firstly, One of the NTP's primary goals is to create a centralised extract of OERs. It is widely accessible to all educators throughout the country.
  • Secondly, It can host openly licenced content and resources from free and open repositories. Like the National Repository of Open Educational Resources (NROER).
  • It also contains content to improve teachers' skills, knowledge, and attitudes. It includes a database of freely licenced educational resources that teachers can use for teaching and learning activities, as reference materials, and for lesson planning and student assessment. The content is contextualised in the regional languages and is curriculum-aligned
  • Activities, videos, engaging features, animations, lesson plans, charts, school books, exercises, and other resources are examples of portal content.
  • Moreover, All institutions, groups, and individuals working on the topics are invited to join the platform and contribute to the creation, upkeep and use
  • Regardless of time and location teachers can evaluate their strengths and opportunities.
