MGVCL stands for Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited. It is one of the electricity distribution companies in the state of Gujarat, India. The company is responsible for the distribution of electricity in 12 districts of central Gujarat, including Vadodara, Dahod, Panchmahal, Mahisagar, Kheda, Anand, Chhota Udepur, and others. MGVCL is a subsidiary of the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) and is regulated by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC).

History

MGVCL was formed as a result of the restructuring of the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) on 15th September 2003, which led to the creation of six new companies for power generation, transmission and distribution in the state of Gujarat. MGVCL was specifically created for the distribution of electricity in the central region of Gujarat. Initially, MGVCL was responsible for the distribution of electricity in six districts, but over the years, it has expanded its operations to cover 12 districts.

Functions of MGVCL

The primary functions of MGVCL are related to power generation, transmission and distribution, billing and collection, maintenance and upkeep of electrical infrastructure, and customer service. Here are some of the main functions of MGVCL:

• Power generation, transmission and distribution: MGVCL is responsible for the distribution of electricity in 12 districts of central Gujarat. It procures power from various sources, including thermal, hydro, and renewable energy, and distributes it to customers through its extensive network of transmission and distribution lines.
• Electricity billing and collection: MGVCL bills its customers based on their electricity consumption and collects payments for the same. The company has implemented various initiatives to streamline the billing and payment process, including the provision of online bill payment facilities and mobile payment options.
• Maintenance and upkeep of electrical infrastructure: MGVCL is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the electrical infrastructure, including transformers, substations, transmission and distribution lines, and other equipment.
