A Brief About the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research

The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, otherwise known as NALSAR, was established in 1998 under an Act of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. NALSAR is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is accredited as an "A"-rated university by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, otherwise known as the NAAC. Moreover, the university offers undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and Ph.D. courses in addition to diploma courses in various fields of law as well as management.  In addition to their full-time courses, the university also offers part-time courses under the Directorate of Distance Education, or DDE. Further, it is important to note that the full-time courses are offered across nine centers, the main ones being:
  • The center for family law
  • The center for constitutional law
  • The Center for Legal Philosophy

How to Get Admission to NALSAR 

BA LLB Course Eligibility Criteria For a student to get into NALSAR’s BA LLB Course, the student should meet the following criteria:
  • A +2 from a recognised board with a minimum of 45% marks is required.
  • Reserved category candidates are allowed 5% relaxation 
  • The student also needs to qualify for the CLAT exam 
  • The students are selected based on their CLAT exam score, viz., the merit list.
  • Those who are selected can proceed with counseling 

NALSAR LLM Course Eligibility Criteria 

For a student to be eligible to get admission into NALSAR’s LLM course, the following criteria need to be met:
  • The candidate must have a LLB degree with at least 55% or an equivalent CGPA.
  • Reserved category candidates are allowed a relaxation of 5% marks 
  • The candidate should have qualified for the CLAT Exam.

NALSAR MBA Course Eligibility Criteria

For a student to get into NALSAR Hyderabad’s MBA program, the candidate must meet the following criteria:
  • The candidate should be a graduate and should have scored at least 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA from a recognised university.
  • Reserved category students are allowed a 5% relaxation.
  • The candidate needs to have a valid CAT, XAT, MAT, GATE, CMAT, or ATMA score 
  • Candidates who have cleared state government exams such as CET, KMAT, and PGCET are also eligible to apply.

NALSAR PG Diploma Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the PG diploma course, the candidates need to meet the following criteria: 
  • The candidates need to be graduates in any field with at least 50% marks. Additionally, candidates with a three year degree or diploma in aircraft maintenance engineering are also eligible to apply if they have three years of experience 
  • The candidates also need to clear the SOP exam.
  • Those who qualify will be able to participate in both the group discussion and the personal interview.
  • Those who make the merit list will make the cut at NALSAR.

NALSAR Ph.D. and Mphil. Eligibility Criteria

To get into NALSAR’s MPhil or Phd. program, the candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • The candidates should have an LLM degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA from a recognised university. 
  • For candidates from the reserved category, the minimum marks needed are 50% or an equivalent CGPA from a recognised university.
  • The candidates who have cleared the UGC NET exam or the JRF, SLET, or MPhil exam do not need to qualify for the admission test, rest have to 
  • Those who qualify in the admission test will need to submit a preliminary proposal of 1,000 words, which will include the hypothesis, and an interview will be held on that basis.
  • Students whose proposals contain more than 15% plagiarism will be rejected.
