
The full form of a RAC is the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary.
It is a division of the Rajasthan Police's organizational structure. The battalions of this state military force are now serving with the Rajasthan Police.
The 1040-mile Indo-Pak border's law and order condition dropped drastically after independence. The Central Reserve Police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary worked together in 1949–1950 to secure the border, and they did so until 1952.
In 1952, the Rajasthan government in addition decided to form a special force that would not only patrol the border but also aid the civil police in tackling the dacoity scourge. This led to the creation of Rajasthan Armed Constables as well. The initial headquarters and training complex, constructed in 1952 at Bharatpur, housed five battalions that underwent training.
The original five battalions of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary were mostly composed of male troops, some of whom were ex-soldiers recruited from the state military and some from outside Rajasthan. Six companies made up each battalion, and one company stayed at the battalion headquarters.
The border towns of Sriganganagar, Raisinghnagar, Barmer, and Jaisalmer received these battalions after that. To monitor for corruption, one unit was frequently posted at the Ghat Gate in Jaipur.
The RAC effectively completed its different tasks within a year of its establishment, demonstrating its value on the border and within the State.

Along with other conflicts, India had instability in Mizoram, NEFA, Jammu, and Kashmir, two wars with Pakistan, and one with China. Regularly sent to these perilous regions, RAC units received recognition for their valor and efficiency.
Two companies from each regiment were typically eliminated in 1962 to create the 6th Battalion. The following years saw the arrival of more battalions. Later, seven Border Security Force battalions and two of these RAC battalions were always amalgamated.
