RINL stands for Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited. It is an Indian government-owned steel manufacturing company, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, also known as Vizag Steel, is a public steel manufacturing company located in Visakhapatnam, India.

It is the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, India's first integrated steel plant built with modern technology. 

The plant has a capacity of 7.3 million tons per annum and was formed in 1992 with a capacity of 3.0 million tons of liquid steel. Over the years, the capacity expanded to 6.3 million tons in 2015 and 7.3 million tons in 2017. 

History Of RINL 

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) was established in the year 1982. It is a state-owned company with the objective of setting up a steel plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. 

The plant is built with the latest technology. Over the years, the company underwent several capacity expansions and by 2017, its production capacity reached 7.3 million tons per annum.

• In the year 2010, RINL was given Navratna status by the Indian government, which recognizes the company as one of the top public sector units in the country. 
• In 2011, the government planned to divest 10% of its stake in RINL via an initial public offering. However, these plans are yet to be executed.
• However, in 2021, the Indian government decided to privatize RINL as part of its larger efforts to sell its stake in several public sector companies. 

This decision caused massive protests in Visakhapatnam, as many workers and employees feared job losses and adverse impacts on their livelihoods. Despite the protests, the privatization of RINL is expected to go ahead as planned.

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), also known as Vizag Steel, is situated in the southern region of Visakhapatnam, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. 

The company operates several captive mines to support its steel production, including-

• A limestone mine at Jaggayyapeta in the Krishna District. 
• A dolomite mine at Madharam in Khammam. 
• And a manganese ore mine at Cheepurupalli in Vizianagaram. 

Additionally, RINL has obtained a mining lease for river sand from the river Champavathi.

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) operates as an integrated steel producer in India. The company's primary operations include iron-making, steel-making, and rolling of steel products. 

• RINL's iron-making process is based on the Blast Furnace technology, while its steel-making process is based on the Basic Oxygen Furnace technology.

• In addition to its core steel production operations, RINL also has a significant presence in the mining sector, with captive mines for key raw materials such as

A Subsidiary of RINL

The company has one subsidiary, Eastern Investment Limited, which holds 51% of shares and two other subsidiaries, 

• Orissa Mineral Development Company 
• Bisra Stone Lime Company. 

The company is also a part of two Joint Ventures, 

RINMOIL Ferro Alloys and International Coal Ventures, with 50% and 26.49% shareholding, respectively.
