GDS Salary Structure in Post Office in 2023
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today approved a revision to the wage structure and allowances of the Department of Posts' Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS).
This wage increase will benefit 3.07 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks.
- The structure and slabs of the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) have been rationalized. The total number of GDSs has been divided into two groups: Branch Postmasters (BPMs) and other Branch Postmasters, namely Assistant Branch Postmasters (ABPMs).
- The current 11 TRCA slabs will be consolidated into three TRCA slabs, each with two levels for BPMs and other than BPMs.
- The GDS annual package varies depending on the position. This includes the starting salary at various levels as well as all other benefits.
- The annual salary for a Branch Post Master typically starts at Rs. 1,44,000, while other positions start at Rs. 1,20,000. The pay scale for each position is listed below.

- Dearness Allowance will continue to be paid as a separate component and will be revised as needed for Central Government employees.
- It has been decided to continue calculating the ex-gratia bonus using the calculation ceiling of Rs.7000 as basic TRCA + DA until a new scheme is developed.
- Arrears from 1.1.2016 to the date of implementation will be paid by multiplying the basic TRCA drawn during the period by 2.57. The arrears will be paid in one lump sum.
- Annual increases of 3% may be given on January 1st or July 1st of each year, depending on the case, based on a one-time written request from GDSs.
- A new Risk and Harm Allowance has been implemented. Additional allowances The following allowances have been revised: office maintenance allowance, combined duty allowance, cash conveyance charges, cycle maintenance allowance, boat allowance, and fixed stationary charges.
India Post GDS Salary 2023 - Job Description
Candidates selected in the GDS as BPM, ABPM, and Dak Sevak will be required to perform specific job roles. The job descriptions for the various positions are as follows:
Branch Post Master
- It is the Branch Post Master's responsibility to promote government schemes such as Sukanya Samrudhi Yojana, Money Depositing, and so on, as well as to open as many accounts as possible in his branch and to oversee the entire postal work of the Gram Panchayat.
- The BPM is also in charge of money orders, book posts, speed posts, and so on.
Assistant Branch Post Master
- The ABPM is involved in all fundamental functions, such as stamp and stationery sales, mail transmission and delivery, IPPB deposits/payments/other transactions, and assisting Branch Post Masters with counter-tasks using the Department's handheld devices/smartphones.
- ABPM also participates in marketing, business procurement, and any other tasks assigned by the Branch Postmaster or IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRM/SSRM and other Supervising Authorities.
Gramin Dak Sevak
- Gramin Dak Sevak is responsible for all functions, including the sale of stamps and stationery, the transport and delivery of mail, and any other duties assigned to Departmental Post Offices/RMS by the Postmaster/Sub Postmaster, including IPPB.
- Dak Sevak must assist Post Masters/Sub Postmasters in managing the smooth operation of Departmental Post Offices, as well as in marketing, business procurement, and any other work assigned by supervising authorities.
- Gramin Dak Sevak must participate in Railway Mail Services (RMS) work such as bag closing/opening, bag transport from one location to another, and any other work assigned by RMS authorities.
