The full form of UDC
"Upper Division Clerk" (UDC) is a job title used in government jobs in India. UDC carries out clerical duties in government offices. Candidates have to clear an examination to apply for this post. Candidates who qualify for this examination have to fulfill a set of responsibilities assigned by government institutes in India.
An Upper Division Clerk (UDC) is a clerical post in the civil service and other central government offices. The post of UDC was generated after the Partition of India in 1947 to restore the British-era Lower Division Clerk (LDC) posts.
The examination is broadly divided into three stages namely Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III. Among these examinations Phase I and Phase III exams are qualifying in nature.
The Post of UDC
An Upper Division Clerk must have good communication, interpersonal, and management skills. They should be well-versed in computer applications and have the ability to type quickly and accurately.
Salary: As per the 7th Central Pay Commission Upper Division clerk receives Rs. 25,500–81,100.
Educational Qualification:
- A degree from a recognized university
- Working knowledge of computers including the use of office data and records
age limit: The candidate must be between 18 and 27 years old as of the closing date for receipt of applications.
Eligibility: A candidate must be either:
- a citizen of India, or
- a citizen of Nepal, or
- a citizen of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee who came to India before the 1st of January, 1962 with the plan of permanently settling in India.
How to Apply
Candidates can only apply online as no other mode of application will be accepted. Important points for candidates before applying online are as follows:
- For online application, the following documents are required
- photograph (4.5 cm by 3.5 cm)
- signature (in black ink)
- Impression of your left thumb (on white paper with black or blue ink)
- a handwritten declaration form (on white paper with black ink).
- The signature must be in small letters.
Registration
Candidates can visit the official ESIC website www.esic.nic.in and select "Apply online for recruitment to the post of UDC/MTS in ESIC. "
The amount of application fee for SC/ST/PWD/Departmental Candidates, Female Candidates, and Ex-Servicemen is Rs. 250/- and for all other categories, the application fee is Rs. 500/-.
Exam Pattern for UDC
Phase I preliminary examination is qualifying in nature and marks will not be counted for final merit. There will be a negative marking For each wrong answer. The candidates will be shortlisted for Phase II on the basis of their performance in Phase I preliminary examination.

Phase II Main Examination: Marks secured in it will be considered for final selection. For each wrong answer, there will be a negative marking. The candidates will be shortlisted for the Phase-III Computer Skill Test on the basis of their performance in the Phase-II examination.

Phase III Computer Skill Test The working knowledge of computers will be tested. It will be qualifying in nature. Marks scored in phase III will not be counted for final merit.
