GATE Year Wise Organizing Institutes: The Graduate Aptitude Test In Engineering is a national-level prestigious entrance test jointly organized by a group of seven IITs and IISc Bangalore on a rotational basis.

GATE 2026 Preparation Strategy

The exam is administered by the designated GATE Committee, which consists of faculty members from IISc Bangalore and the seven IITs. This committee works on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India to ensure fair evaluation of candidates. 

A total of eight institutions are responsible for conducting the GATE examination. This arrangement guarantees that every institute has the opportunity to host the examination once every eight years. 

The GATE exam is typically conducted in the first and second week of February every year. The exam is organized across various specializations of Engineering and Science. The GATE Scorecard remains valid for a period of 3 years from the release date. Candidates can use the GATE scorecard to obtain M.Tech. and Ph.D. admission as well as in PSU recruitments.

For the academic year 2025, IIT Roorkee hosted the GATE examination across 30 various branches. The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence is a newly added paper in the GATE exam, which was introduced by IISc Bangalore during the GATE 2024 examination.

Who Will Organize the GATE 2026?

The GATE 2026 exam will be organized by IIT Roorkee across various branches and specializations. The institute will administer the examination nation-wise via computer-based mode in the forthcoming year. The official GATE 2026 Notification will be tentatively made public in August 2025 and the registration process will continue for a specific period on the GATE 2026 Official Website or GOAPS Portal.
