The exam is administered by the designated GATE Committee, which consists of faculty members from IISc Bangalore and the seven IITs. This committee works on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India to ensure fair evaluation of candidates. 

A total of eight institutions are responsible for conducting the GATE examination. This arrangement guarantees that every institute has the opportunity to host the examination once every eight years. 

The GATE exam is typically conducted in the first and second week of February every year. The exam is organized across various specializations of Engineering and Science. The GATE Scorecard remains valid for a period of 3 years from the release date. Candidates can use the GATE scorecard to obtain M.Tech. and Ph.D. admission as well as in PSU recruitments.

For the academic year 2027, IIT Madras is hosting the GATE examination across 30 various branches.

Who Will Organize the GATE 2027?

The GATE 2027 exam will be organized by IIT Madras across various branches and specializations. The institute will administer the examination nation-wise via computer-based mode in the forthcoming year. The official GATE 2027 Notification is out now on July 20, 2026 and the registration process will continue for a specific period on the GATE 2027 Official Website or GOAPS Portal.
