This examination facilitates admission to various postgraduate programs, including M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., and M.Sc.-M.Tech., across different IITs and participating institutions. The counselling process is a crucial step for candidates who qualify for the JAM exam, and it consists of several stages that must be followed meticulously. Below is a comprehensive overview of the process:
Registration: Candidates who pass the IIT JAM 2025 exam must register for the counselling process. During registration, they will need to provide their preferred institutions and other pertinent details.
Publication of Admission Lists and Ranks: The conducting IIT will publish the admission lists for IIT JAM 2025, along with the opening and closing ranks. These ranks will influence candidates' chances of securing admission to their chosen institutes.
Invitation for Counselling: Candidates who qualify will receive an invitation to participate in the IIT JAM 2025 counselling process. It is essential for them to be available during the designated counselling period.
Document Verification: Candidates must bring their original documents for verification during the counselling session. Required documents include the JAM Admit Card, Hall Ticket/Admit Card of the qualifying examination, Mark Sheets of the qualifying examination, Category Certificate (if applicable), and any other relevant certificates.
Choice Locking: Following document verification, candidates will have three options to select from:
Accept and Freeze: Candidates can confirm their acceptance of the allotted seat and secure it by paying the seat booking fee.
Accept and Upgrade: Candidates may accept the allotted seat but continue to seek better options in subsequent rounds. Those who choose this option will typically receive higher priority in future admission lists.
Reject and Withdraw: Candidates can decline the allotted seat and remove their names from consideration.
Seat Allocation: The IIT JAM 2025 seat allocation will be conducted based on candidates' preferences, ranks, and the availability of seats.
Reporting to the Allotted Institute: After the seat allocation, candidates are required to report to the designated institute to complete the admission process, which includes paying the necessary fees and submitting the required documents.
Candidates selected for IIT JAM 2025 counselling are required to present a specific set of documents for verification and admission purposes. It is essential that all documents are original and accompanied by photocopies

Candidates participating in IIT JAM 2025 must first pay the CCMN Registration Fees. Once the payment is made, they can add, remove, or rearrange their preferred colleges in the saved list until the CCMN Choice Locking deadline. It is essential to finalize and lock their selected colleges by this deadline, as no further changes will be allowed afterward. If candidates fail to lock their choices, their last saved list will be automatically considered for the next counselling round.
The seat allocation for candidates for IIT JAM Counselling 2025 will depend on their performance in the IIT JAM 2025 exam, the established cut-off marks, and the total number of participants. During the first round of seat allotment, candidates need to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee or CCMN Seat Acceptance Fee, regardless of whether they are satisfied with the seat they receive. After each round, a new CCMN Seat Allotment List will be published, which will include the roll numbers, names, and details of the seats assigned to candidates.
During the IIT JAM Counselling 2025 process, candidates have three distinct Seat Acceptance options to help them navigate their admission choices based on personal preferences and available institutions.
1. Freeze Option: Candidates opting for the Freeze choice indicate their satisfaction with the course and institution they have been assigned. By confirming this option, they secure their admission and commit to studying at the designated college without seeking any further upgrades or changes.
2. Float Option: This option is ideal for those who wish to keep their options open for potentially better opportunities in later counselling rounds. By selecting the Float option, candidates express their willingness to accept an upgraded seat at a more preferred institution if one becomes available. However, if they do not receive an upgrade, they must accept the seat they were initially allotted.
3. Slide Option: The Slide option caters to candidates who are happy with the institution they have been assigned but are interested in upgrading to a different course within the same college. By choosing this option, they signal their desire to be considered for a more favorable course at the same institution. If no better course is offered, they will need to accept the seat they were originally given.
Cndidates who are dissatisfied with the seat assigned to them through the Centralised Counselling for M.Sc./M.Sc. Tech (CCMN) can select the 'Surrender and Participate in the Next Round' option. This allows them to enter the next counselling round while giving up their current seat. However, if they fail to obtain a seat in the subsequent round, they will lose their opportunity to accept the original seat they were allocated through CCMN. In such situations, these candidates must take part in the Vacant Seat Round (CCMN 2025 Spot Round) to try to secure a seat for admission.
Candidates intending to withdraw from the IIT JAM CCMN 2025 counselling process can opt for the 'Withdrawal of Application Form.' It is crucial to understand that selecting this option will disqualify them from participating in any subsequent rounds of IIT JAM 2025 Counselling. As a result, any seat allocated during the current round will be reassigned to another applicant. The withdrawal option will be available from June 07 to July 07, 2025. If a candidate withdraws, they will receive a refund of the CCMN 2025 seat acceptance fee or seat allotment fee. However, the IIT JAM CCMN counselling fee will not be refunded.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will release the IIT JAM opening and closing ranks online for the 2025 session. The IIT conducting the exam will publish these ranks in four rounds, providing candidates with essential information regarding their admission prospects. To access the IIT JAM 2025 opening and closing ranks, candidates need to visit the official website of the respective IIT. These ranks are vital for candidates as they help them understand their standing in the admission process.
The conducting IIT will release approximately four admission lists for the IIT JAM exam each year. These lists are prepared based on the All India Ranks assigned to candidates and the number of available seats across all participating IITs. The admission lists are expected to be published on May 26, 2025 (Monday), and will be released at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks. Candidates can conveniently check the admission lists on the official website, where they can find detailed information about the institutes offering admission and the specific programs available.
The IIT JAM 2025 will involve participation from 22 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) located across the country, including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Bhubaneswar, among others. The results of JAM 2025 will be crucial for admission to over 3,000 seats in 105 postgraduate programs across these IITs for the academic year 2025-26.
