IPMAT Preparation Strategy for Maths Vs Non-Maths

IPMAT Preparation Strategy: The IPMAT is a highly competitive management entrance exam aspirants have to take after their class 12. Given the challenge level of the IPMAT exam , candidates need to follow a strategic preparation to thoroughly cover the exam syllabus.

As the IPMAT exam includes the quantitative ability section, many aspirants with non-mathematical backgrounds find IPMAT particularly challenging. Besides these candidates, those from mathematical backgrounds also need to gain a comprehensive understanding of the mathematical concepts and practice questions to score good marks in the IPMAT exam candidates.

Can Non-Maths Students Take IPMAT?

According to IPMAT eligibility criteria, candidates belonging to any stream in class 12 can take the exam, provided they meet other eligibility requirements. The IPM program is designed to be inclusive and is open to students from all academic streams. This means that even if candidates did not study mathematics in their 11th and 12th grades, they are still eligible to take the exam. The program values diversity in educational backgrounds, so not having studied maths will not prevent candidates from applying or succeeding in the IPMAT.

Significance of Mathematics in IPMAT Exam

The IPMAT Indore exam includes two sections based on mathematical questions. In one section, candidates need to answer MCQs, while the other section includes short-answer type maths questions. Therefore, to score good marks in the IPMAT exam, candidates must focus on strengthening their maths.
  • Those with a strong grasp of mathematical concepts and their application have better chances of performing well in the IPMAT exam.

IPMAT Preparation Strategy for Maths Vs Non Maths Students

IPMAT Preparation Strategy for Math students and non maths students is almost similar. Although students who don't have maths in their 11 and 12 classes have to give extra attention to master maths, cracking the exam is not easy for those belonging to a maths background. Here are recommended IPMAT Preparation Strategy for non math students and math students.

  • Focus on Common/Basic Topics First

Begin candidates should focus on understanding basic topics like algebra and arithmetic, which are commonly tested in IPMAT. Candidates must practise a variety of questions in these areas to ensure they are comfortable handling them. This approach helps offset any questions candidates may find challenging due to the advanced maths sections.
By mastering these basics, candidates will cover a large portion of the syllabus tested in IPMAT and JIPMAT. By following this practice, candidates can build a strong foundation for further preparation for IPMAT.
  • Consistent Practice

Students with a maths background have the advantage of covering advanced maths concepts in their 11th and 12th classes. However, candidates with non-maths backgrounds can also master these topics if they understand the concept well and practise questions consistently. To improve comprehension, candidates should solve one or two examples while covering the concept.
Further, they should practise various types of questions based on the specific topic. Once candidates are confident to solve different types of questions based on an advanced maths topic, they should move to solve actual exam-based questions. This approach is essential to understand the challenge level of the actual exam and determine their preparedness.
  • Focus on Other Strong Topics

IMPAT exam has a limited number of questions based on advanced maths concepts. In case candidates are not able to solve these types of questions even after practice, they must give emphasis on other topics of the QA section. Additionally, candidates should strengthen their verbal section to compensate for the marks they may lose in advanced maths-based questions.
  • Master Key Topics

Given the time constraints during the IPMAT exam, solving all 60 questions in the quantitative section isn't a realistic target. To maximise one's score, candidates should focus on questions they are confident about and can solve quickly. Additionally, candidates should identify the high weightage topics of the IPMAT exam and pay attention to master them.
  • Review Mock Tests

After completing a section or the entire syllabus of IPMAT, candidates should practise with IPMAT sectional and full-length mock tests. When reviewing mock tests, if candidates come across questions related to higher maths concepts which they haven't covered, they must mark them and look for their solution to enhance their preparation.
Additionally, after completing the mock test, candidates should analyse their performance to identify their strong and weak areas.  Achieve your target of entering IIMs to pursue an IPM program with thorough preparation offered by PW IPMAT Online Coaching .
