The Directorate of Prosecution had announced 196 vacancies for Public Prosecutors (PP) earlier. The PPs and Assistant PPs recruitment was on a contractual basis for the retired prosecutors. The High Court directed the Government of NCT of Delhi to present a clear roadmap for filling the numerous vacant prosecutor positions through a standard recruitment process.
A latest update has been rolled out regarding the Delhi High Court judgment dated December 18, 2023, from a Writ Petition where the court had taken suo motu cognisance. The order was delivered by the Honourable Chief Justice and Justice Tushar Rao. The Principal Secretary of the Government of NCT of Delhi provided a timeline to start the recruitment through UPSC.
The specified timeline for sending the recruitment requisition to the UPSC is as follows:
For Public Prosecutors (PP):
Recruitment rules have been cleared by the office of the Lieutenant Governor (LG).
The requisition for initiating the appointment process will be sent to the UPSC within 10 days of the court order (approximately by December 28, 2023).
For Additional Public Prosecutors (Addl. PP) & Assistant Public Prosecutors (APP):
New recruitment rules are in the final stage of finalisation.
Approval for these new rules from the LG's office is expected within four weeks.
After receiving LG's approval, the government will send the requisition to the UPSC within the following 10 days.

Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP):
Freshers are expected to be eligible. No prior experience is likely to be required.
Additional Public Prosecutor (Addl. PP) & Public Prosecutor (PP):
Experience will be required. These posts will not be open to freshers.
Conducting Body: The examination is conducted by the UPSC.
Language: The Delhi APP exam is conducted only in English.
